Conservatives please answer without being snarky if you can?

Your ideology often labels mine - proud leftist - as a 'do nothing' ideology.

What good has your side accomplished since taking over all 3 branches of Federal government?

I'm hearing a lot about the economy but I can't take that seriously when 2 miilion Americans fell below the poverty line in the last four years. Anything else?

So I've seen you're gay hate and your economic fantasies about poverty not existing, but those have been fixtures of the Republican party for at least 25 years. I was talking about *this* administration and actual tangible things that they have done. "Gays are gross" is not an accomplishment. "Poor people have TVs" is not an accomplishment.

I should also add that I agree with the gentleman who remarked that Bush is not a Conservative, and that there is a fairly serious seperation between real Conservatives and Republicans in general these days.

I'm a conservative. I'll let you know when I see more than a handful of conservatives in congress. And Bush, by the way, is -not- a conservative. Ever bigger government? That's not conservative. Zero respect for others? That's not conservative either.

Bush isn't a liberal, moderate, or a conservative. He's a cowboy without the skill to handle a nation as complex as the U.S.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm getting tired of people talking about Conservatives and Republicans as if they were the same thing. They're not. Not even remotely. Want to know who feels more disenfranchised than the left nowadays? The right. The party that's 'supposed' to represent us won. And yet we lost. Now we don't have anyone left to vote for.

First I've never said the liberal is a do nothing ideology; and in fact I think it wants to do too much. It seems to want to end personal responsibility in many cases and increase government control of our lives which I as a conservative oppose.

What good has our side accomplished. The problem is many of the left side get so political they can't see the good. The economy is a great example. Tax cuts helped fuel the economy and our revenue is increasing, jobs are growing despite the cry of outsourcing, and both inflation and interest rates remain low. But what the President has accomplished more then any liberal will ever give him credit for was putting al queda on the defensive. We continue to chase them around Afghanistan and we've helped a new government form there that has very limited human rights - compared to the one that had almost none. We continued to chase al queda into Iraq - yes they went into Iraq ahead of us and continue to fight us there. Its better they fight us there - then in NYC?

Allow me to copy & paste a bit. I know it's annoying, but I feel this is relevant to the discussion of "poverty" in the US.

The following are facts about persons defined as "poor" by the Census Bureau, taken from various government reports:

Forty-six percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.

Seventy-six percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, 30 years ago, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.

Only 6 percent of poor households are overcrowded. More than two-thirds have more than two rooms per person.

The average poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe. (These comparisons are to the average citizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)

Nearly three-quarters of poor households own a car; 30 percent own two or more cars.

Ninety-seven percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.

Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception.

Seventy-three percent own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and a third have an automatic dishwasher.
