A woman ovulates for a few seconds to a few minutes. You can actually observe the entire process by ultrasound...if you happen to be sitting under an U/S machine when it happens.
There is *no* way (other than that U/S) to know precisely when you are ovulating. The best way to estimate when you are ovulating is to chart signs of fertility. This will let you know the *day* (but not precise hour) you are ovulating to give you the best chance to conceive. For details on how to chart, please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler.
It is *not* true that you ovulate 14 days before your next period. That is an average--which means it's *not* true for most women! (Think of it this way, if you were to assume that every woman is 5'4" tall because that's average, you'd usually be wrong.) Most women ovulate 12-16 days before their next period, although there are exceptions. Further, until you *have* that next period, you can't know when you are ovulating by this estimation!! You may have ovulated late, which would then cause your period to be "late" (it isn't *really* late--it's still 12-16 days after ovulation).
An online ovulation calendar won't work because it, too, works on this mythical average. And an ovulation predictor kit is much less accurate than charting. Read the book--it will give you *lots* of information on how your body works!!

A woman usually ovulates 14 days before her period. So if you have a 30 day cycle you would ovulate on day 16. To figure this out you need to track your period to see how many days between your period there are.The egg is good for about 24 hours.

Once the egg is released it lives for 6-24 hours. One of the best indicators of impending ovulation is taking ovulation predictor tests and when you see a pos. you will ovulate 24-36 hours later. Another thing you can do is chart your basal body temps (www.fertilityfriend.com) and that will tell you after ovulation has taken place.

a woman ovulates for 24-32 hours, but you are most fertile 1-2 days before. Every one has different symtoms you would have to track it with a basal thermo or urine strips then keep a tracking chart.

theoratically speaking the cycly is 28 days so the ovulation will be in the middle of this cycly from day 14 to 16 but on reality things might vary but the ovulation is ususally in the middle of your cycle if its regular then its simple to identify ur ovulation
