First combine -2 + 1 into -1:

8/y = 2/y - 1

Multiply with y to get rid of the fractions. Keep in mind that y cannot be zero.

8 = 2 - y

8 + y = 2 - y + y
8 + y = 2
8 + y - 8 = 2 - 8
y = -6

8/y = 2/y - (2+1)?

or 8/y = 2/y - 2+1?

permit's in simple terms paintings on each and every element: A = y^2 - 3y + 2 = (y - 2) * (y - a million) B = y^2 + 5y + 6 = (y + 3) * (y + 2) C = y^2 + 2y - 8 = (y + 4) * (y - 2) D = y^2 + y - 12 = (y + 4) * (y - 3) (A/B) / (C/D) => (A * D) / (B * C) ((y - 2) * (y - a million) * (y + 4) * (y - 3)) / ((y + 3) * (y + 2) * (y + 4) * (y - 2)) we are able to element out (y - 2) and (y + 4) ((y - a million) * (y - 3)) / ((y + 3) * (y + 2)) There you circulate.

Be careful, too many wrong answers among good ones. How do you know which is right?
Take whatever answer you think is right and plug it back in the original question. Let's try y = -6.

8/-6 = 2/-6 -2 +1

Work it out to see if it makes sense:

-4/3 = -1/3 - 1

Multiply both sides by 3.

-4 = -1 - 3

Since the equation above is true, than the solution
y = -6 is the good one.

8/y = 2/y - 2 + 1
multiply by y each side
8 = 2 - 2y + y
combine the y's
8 = 2 - y
subtract 2 from each side
6 = -y
y=-6

I think you balance the equation.

8/Y = 2/Y - 2+1 (short cutting next step)
Y= 8 + 2 - 2+1
Y= 7

I don't know this for a fact. 'sbeen years

8/y=2/y-2+1
y(8/y)=y(2/y-2+1)
8=y(2-2+1)
8=y(1)
y=8

Do not go to class with this. I was curious to see if I could still do it.

Note: Nope can't. LOL

Y (8/y) = Y(2/y) – 2Y + Y
8 = 2 – Y
-6 = Y

8/y = 2/y - 2 + 1
2 - 1 = 2/y - 8/y
1 = -6/y
y = -6

this is simple algebra!!

8/y=2/y-2+1
8/y=2/y-1
8=2-y
y=6

to get rid of the denominator of y, i just multiplied the whole thing by y (y/1) and cross-cancelled
