I have installed the driver off the cd and through 'add/remove hardware' and its shown in the device manager. however when i go to 'my computer' it's not shown, neither is it in explorer. What can i do?

START---R click MY COMPUTER---L click MANAGE---L click DISK MANAGEMENT---make the page large by clicking the box in the upper right.Do you see the drive listed there?R click the new drive---NEW PARTITION and so on.

open device manager
is there a tick on the drive?
double click it and search you disc and point at the divers from the disk
you could run the add new hardware wizard again
just unplug it and plug it in again

I think that you should format it using a start up disk like for Windows 98 it's the best start up disk.. or maybe cause you are using another file system and the hard disk using other!!

If you are connecting it by USB you'll have to make sure your USB hub is enabled in device manager. Other than that there shouldn't be a problem.

It all depends on what you are running though.

first thing you need to do is to check whether it is shown in BIOS. it may have happened that the jumper setting you are using is conflicting with other HDD/Optical drive (CD/DVD). once it is shown in bios, there is no reason your hdd is not shon in explorer.

Its probably not partitioned/formatted... You can use Windows Disk Manager to do it, just be careful that you dont format your primary hard disk... Need any in depth help, dont be afraid to contact me.

you may have installed the software and hardware the wrong way round. unistall all the stuff, then check the manual

do not plug it in untill after you turn your pc on or it will cause problems.
