Okay, someone please enlighten me on this. I know that the HCG Hormone is not detected in a HPT a few days before or a little after a missed period. Let me give an example of my question. - Say you expected your period but instead you got 2 days of spotting. That's it. There's a high possibility that you are pregnant. Will the hormone not show up until the next month when you are expecting the next period? Or should it have been present at the time of the "spotting"? About 5-6 days before the spotting occured there was sex. Sorry if I sound stupid but I just want to clear this up. Thanks!

HCG shows up in your urine sometime during the week before you would have had your first period had you not gotten pregnant. For *some* women, this is 5 days before the period was due; for others it is the day before or even the day after your period would have started. In either case, a very early test would only be accurate if it detects tiny amounts of HCG; there are some very sensitive tests and other less sensitive ones on the market.

If the spotting was implantation, then HCG would usually appear in your urine about 2 days later. (This is assuming the spotting occurred at the *start* of implantation.) If it was ovulation spotting, then you would first have HCG in your urine about 8-15 days later.

To be more specific... A woman ovulates about 2 weeks (generally 12-16 days) before her next period. If the egg is fertilized, it then travels to the uterus and starts implanting (which typically takes 6-12 days). At implantation, it starts producing HCG. Some will show up in the blood the day after implantation, but it generally takes another full day for it to "spill over" into the urine. Some women have no HCG in the urine for 2-3 months when pregnant, but this is uncommon.

I hope this answers your question.

HCG is only released after the fertilized egg attaches to the uterus. What happens is, a woman normally ovualtes about 14 days after her period starts. Around ovulation is obviously when pregnancy occurs and an egg becomes fertilized by sperm. It takes about 6 to 12 days for the fertilized egg to travel to the uterus and attach and then another day or two for the HCG hormone to be released. So to answer your question, the HCG should show up by the time the spotting occured however it may take a few more days to get high enough levels of HCG in the urine.

A pregnancy test is accurate at about 14 days after ovulation or about the time your period is due. You don't have to wait til next month for a test to be accurate--it will be accurate anytime after your missed period (or spotting). If you had sex 5-6 days before your period was due then you missed your ovulatory period and probably aren't pregnant.

It might have shown up when the light period occured. Otherwise if your next period is absent, take a test. This probably means you are pregnant. I just went through this with my last pregnany. I had a light period than nothing at all at my next period. I took a second test and it came out positive. Good Luck!!!
