Is it common to wait until draft day (which is one week before the season opener) to select the draft order.

Or do most leagues choose that ahead of time so people can start planning and mock drafting?

We have draft day on Labor Day weekend and they just selected the random order. Is that fair?

I'm finding that more and more people like to know the draft order ahead of time. It somehow helps them in their draft strategy. If they do, and I'm the commish, I just draw the team names out of a bowl or something.

I have run our fantasy league for many years and we have always pulled numbers from a hat on draft day.

No one has ever complained of not being able to mock draft.

usually want to do it week or so before the actual draft takes place. random order is fine, pick a name from the hat kind of thing. mine starts in four weeks and order hasn't been decided yet. but earlier the better so whoever is first can plan accordingly.

We randomly draw numbers at the draft (about a week before the season begins).

i have a dynasty league and we do a lottery with the 6 worst teams, based on order of finish. it is usually done a couple weeks before our cutdown day and draft. it gives teams a chance to move their picks.

random (from a hat, etc) on draft day is how we have always done it. no advantage or pre-planning, it's more fun that way.

Yes, it is fair, as long as the order was picked from random.

Thats how my leagues do it.
