OK CHECK THIS OUT. iF YOU ARE A 20 YEAR OLD STUDENT APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID AND YOU LIVE ON YOUR OWN (NOT MARRIED OR HAVE ANY KIDS) AND WORK FULL TIME, YOU CANNOT BE APPROVED IF YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR PARENTS SIGNATURES (YOU HAVE TO BE 24 FOR THAT NOT TO BE REQUIRED). WHAT IS A PERSON TO DO?? (LIKE IN MY CASE) I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MY PARENTS, I AM NOT MARRIED AND I WILL NOT HAVE A KID NOW. i CERTAINLY CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY IT ON MY OWN....

Go to the financial aid office at the institution you are attending ASAP, and I'm sure they can help you sort through this problem. I agree it's pretty screwed up, the feds assume that anyone under 24 is getting help from their parents, but it's definitely not always the case.

Show them your tax returns for the last 2 years and then you will qualify for federal aid ...you may not qualify for state aid.

I went thru the same thing when I applied for financial aid.

I really wish the government would do a little less and folks would assume some personal responsibility! I guess when you type in all caps you don't need to worry about capitalization....do you?
