I assume that you mean your *cycle* was 34 days long? If your period was 34 days, you need to see a doctor *fast*!!

The cervix in some women don't "behave" the way they tell you in books. If you have been charting for several months and it *has* been doing what all teh books say, this is probably not the problem, but if you just started charting, keep this in mind.

The cervical fluid, however, is different. If it's really stretchy (and if the creamy stuff is *wet*), then yes, your body is preparing for ovulation. Again, if you are only starting to chart, then it's possible that you are preparing for ovulation, but something will interrupt the process so that you don't actually ovulate. You may then ovulate several days (even weeks) later. For this reason, it's really important to chart your BBT, as well. Then you'll know that you actually *did* ovulate. The first day after the stretchy fluid is the actual day of ovulation; it will almost always be the day your BBT jumps up.

If you haven't already, please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It has very detailed information, including an appendix for "troubleshooting".

If you are seeing a small amount of stretchy mucus and some white mucus, then chances are high that you are about to ovulating, or are ovulating right now. Both of those are considered the "more fertile" types of mucus.

About the cervix, a high, soft, and open cervix usually signals imminent ovulation

could be. Most woman have mild, not really noticable cramps when they ovulate. This could be a sign to look out for. Also, your temperature will rise slightly. But you would have to keep a track of this to figure out what is a high temperature for you to begin with. Good Luck!!!
