Its like anything that you put your mind to do. If you practice something all of the time you get good at it. Unless you have a mental disorder, you can study and read as much as possible and become the most knowledgeable person in the world same as Michael Jordan in basketball. Common sense, well that's a different thing, because what is common in your environment may not be common in someone elses. So read a book, go to the library and see who has the upper hand on knowledge.

It is genetic. If you take the fathers IQ and mothers IQ, the child usually ends up somewhat toward the mean. However, sometimes events happen in the genetic makeup that produces as highly intelligent child (high IQ) despite the mothers and fathers lower IQ.
It is genetics.

Keep the brain active: Crosswords Puzzles, Reading, Read a Word a Day from the Dictionary....
Keeps the brain alert. Is also very helpful as we age to keep the brain aware!
P.S. I believe what clouds the brain are emotional things get in the way, life situations etc.

Some peoples brains are just better developed than others, just like some people are more physically beautiful. You can work on it to better develop your brain just like developing your body with exercise. Of course you cannot change what you are born with. I know life is not fair but that is it. Peoples personalities are also pre-determined though you can try to change it, it really is the way it is, so best to accept it.

Generally speaking:
It depends on what a brain takes on as a child and what is devolped as a child, if the child is taught motivation, focus and self discipline, and these commodities are encouraged by the parents the young mind will take it on, and this encourages growth for motivation, ceativity and a curiosity for learning.
Teaching the child to focus is one of the main commodities as this encourages the mind to divide and store imformation without being scattered.

I actually do not beleive that a good education has anything to do with it. I beleive you can indeed train someone to be smarter, but natural genius can and does occur. It most likely has something to do witht he way the brain is formed, and the ability to process data.

I think that is the difference between having a college education or being a high school drop out. Common sense is another story altogether.

its genetics and how those effect the construction of the brain and to a lesser degree its motivation and attitude.
I.E. even a person of roughly average intelligence can train themselves to be exceptional.
