I love most fantasy or romance books, any length is good for me, and it's nice if there's sequals, but it's cool if there's not.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a must-read. It is the first in a series. It was only released last year (2005) and its first sequel is due in a few months--September to be exact. The sequel is called New Moon. But it will definitely be a series. It is about a young teen, Bella Swan, and her dreamy but ever-so-mysterious boyfriend, Edward Cullen...whose big secret could change her life forever: he's a vampire!

Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. Uglies; Pretties; Specials. The books depict a dystopia society where beauty is more than lucky genes...it's controlled by a 'Pretty Committee.' But there is a big secret they're keeping from the masses...

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. And its sequel Sea of Monsters.

There is a whole series of books about a planet called Darkover by Marion Zimmer Bradley. They are fantastic! It's about humans that are going to space to create a colony and they become stranded on the wrong planet! Some start to develop psychic powers and they end up living in a feudal society. There are tons of books and even anthologies of short stories written by fans. You can start anywhere in the series since they were not written in a particular order and they cover 1000's of years of history! Of course there are great romances involved too!

In the Forests of the Night, Demon in My View, Shattered Mirror, Midnight Predator. (all by Amelia Atwater Rhodes.) They're about vampires, and some characters fall in love with each other. Others by her: Hawksong, Snakecharm (about shapeshifters, also by Amelia Atwater Rhodes). Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine.

Well I'm glad that you read Tamora Pierce's books....they would be my first recommendation. Also Sarah Dessen has pretty good romance type stories...nothing too deep. Aslo I do like Gerald Morris's books.....something kinda like Pierce's but with more male characters.

You didn't say how old of a "teen" you are, so I gave a broad range of books. The first books on the list are probably more pre-teen and move up in age until the end of the list is more like seventeen/eighteen/nineteen.

Here are my recommendations:

"The Ordinary Princess" by M.M. Kaye
"Wait Till Helen Comes" by Mary Downing Hahn
"A Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula K. Le Guin
"Juniper" by Monica Furlong
"Life of Pi" by Yann Martel
"Changing Fate" by Lisa Waters
"Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams
"Gil's All Fright Diner" by A. Lee Martinez
"The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho
"Warlord" and it's sequal "Warsworn" by Elizabeth Vaughan... "Warlord" is my favorite book ever!!!
"Rake's Ransom" by Barbara Matzger
"Charming the Prince" by Teresa Mederios
"The Prize" by Julie Garwood
"The Malory Series" by Johanna Lindsey
--'Love Only Once'
--'Tender Rebel'
--'Gentle Rogue'
--'The Magic of You'
--'Say You Love Me'
--'The Present'
"The Warlord" by Elizabeth Elliot
"The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom

I hope this helps... good reading... T.

i recommend CS Lewis's Narnia Series if you haven't read it. Also his SF trilogy, especially Voyage to Venus. For romance some of Susan Howatch's novels are worthwhile. Some of those are Gothic (in the traditional not the fad sense) others are historical novels of various periods. The Pearl by John Steinback.

Hi there. I'm the author of a new medieval fantasy book that you might like. The title is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you like Conan, LOTR or Harry Potter type books, this may be one you'll enjoy.

Good luck, whatever you decide to read!

Jon F. Baxley (Author, Editor, Ghostwriter and Proofreader)

THE SCYTHIAN STONE (eBook only)
THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY (eBook and hard cover)
THE REGENTS OF RHUM (coming fall '07)

Major Media Reviews:

Publishers Weekly

STARRED Review. A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley's fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain. When Merlin's long-ago apprentice Kruzurk Makshare (aka the Boozer) receives a dreamlike visitation from the legendary mage, he learns he must destroy another former apprentice, the villainous Seed of Cerberus. To do so will require a visit to the demon-guarded Blackgloom Keep. Enter young Daynin McKinnon, who discovers a curious rune-covered headstone, which may be the fabled Blackgloom Bounty, and brings it to Kruz's attention. Kruz believes it will provide entry into the fortress, while Daynin hopes the sale of the stone will restore his family's fortunes. The colorful cast of good guys and ne'er-do-wells includes the Pictish ghost of Brude McAlpin liberated from his tomb, assorted pursuing Caledonians and a bemused Prior Bede, whose monastery serves as a hiding place for the Blackgloom Bounty. Suitable for fantasy enthusiasts of all ages.
