So you can call for help if you ever need it. That's the #1 reason why my mom ever got a cell. So she could call AAA if the car broke down or something. You can also call for help if you drive by a building that's on fire, or a car accident, or anything like that.

Cell phones aren't ONLY for teenagers to gab away to their friends, they're also a great thing to have if you're ever by yourself, need help, get lost, have a fender-bender or other accident, or anything like that so you can call your family and let them know what happened, call the insurance company, or call a hospital. Depending what the case may be. It's also good if you just want to let your mom (or hubby in the future) know you're going to be late getting home from work/school or something so they don't get worried about what happened to you. I know my mom would also get really worried if I was running late and she couldn't get a hold of me. Now she can just call me on the cell and find out where I am or if I need a ride.

I just read in your profile that you're going to be a Freshman in HS, so I'm assuming you need ideas for convincing your parents for one, right? lol! Good luck! Just tell them you want it so THEY can contact YOU. Don't say anything about needing it to talk to friends or anything like that. Make it look like it's a benefit to THEM and a good investment. Just be prepared for them to be able to track your calling records, know who you talked to, and yell at you if you come close to, or go over, your minute limit. Good luck though!

If you are driving during a winter snowstorm and your car skids off the road, and it's the middle of the night so no body saw you, and you are trapped in your car, the phone is a necessity if you want to live.

My first cell phone was purchased because I bought a brand new car with roadside assistance. I didn't see the need to have to get out of my car, walk somewhere and hope I could find a phone.

My hubby and I use ours to send grocery lists to each other, as he does not have email and goes right by the grocery store on his way home from work.

You can use them to report accidents, speeders, anything out of the ordinary.
