The problem here is that you're anthropomorphizing.
Keep in mind that what to you is a little hole, is at least body-sized to a fly. It's no less likely to be able to find it's way through a hole in your screen than you are to find a door in a wall.
Also, flies don't use the same visual range as humans. They see much more in the infrared - emitted heat and the like. This means the plume of hot air coming through your window stands out to a fly like a tornado on a plain. Once they get inside your house, however, everything is the same temperature, and they can't find their way out as easily (as if they'd want to - I'm sure that to a fly there's lots of terrific stuff in your house!).

Whether or not they have the talent is up for grabs, but the little pests do find their way into all kinds of spots that are amazing. If there is a hole in your screen, chances are a fly will come through it.

Yes. They can find holes in the screen that you don't even know you had. I had a fly infestation one time - it's freaky. I thought something "Amytiville Horror" was going on for a minute. I took bug spray made to kill flies and sprayed the outside of the window and window frame to keep them away from the house. Good luck.

flies inteligence level isn't high enough
contain problem solving motor skill in order to
find it's way into ones room through a whole in a screen. It's far more likely for a fly to come through a constant motion of a door being opened and shut constantly.

absolutely. It all depends on where the smells are coming from. If the kitchen window is open while youre cooking, it will smell from the window, and thats where the flies will go first, looking for a way in. Try buying some foam weatherproofing for the doorjamb and some screen patching for your screen, so you dont have to swat flies all day. ;-)
