In BF2 can you unlock Special Forces weapons with regular BF2?

I've heard about people unlocking the L96A1 sniper rifle with regular Battlefield 2. Some say you need to purchase Special Forces to unlock the weapon.

No you cant unlock SF weapons with regular BF2... You can however use SF weapons kits with regular BF2, you have to kill someone with the kit unlocked and then exchange your kit while their's is on the ground.
