I enjoy breastfeeding my 1yr old (as of sat.) and he wants it only in the morning when he wakes around 6 and then goes back to sleep. How long can I expect to be able to do this and afterwards how do I evolve it to something else?? As I said, I enjoy being able to nurse and am not looking for a substitution while I am able to provide for him.

If you nurse only once a day, your body will adjust to only produce much milk once a day. Breastfeeding is amazing--your body can adjust to any schedule you need!!

To the those that suggested he might desire to be eating from a sippy cup by using now, how do you propose she turns her breast right into a sippy cup? infants are meant to nurse for as long as they nevertheless desire milk. meaning a minimum of two years, or perhaps longer. My infant's going to be 11 months next week, and he or she nevertheless nurses like a newborn. So analyzing your question, and Mystic's solutions, i've got faith greater effective that we at the instant are not extraordinary, and not the only ones. i think of as long as he needs to nurse, permit him nurse. Breastmilk has greater food than any sturdy nutrition. He knows what's nice for him. My daughter does not like solids lots the two. I parent whilst she's waiting she'll start up ingesting. stable success to you, and carry in there with the night nursings! My infant nevertheless nurses each and every hour at night!!!!

Your body will adjust and if he only nurses 1 X a day and you don't pump other times, that is how much milk you will have- enough for that once a day.

Best wishes!

Your body may adjust. Watch out for getting pregnant, though. You won't be feeding enough to be able to use the pill for breastfeeding moms and if your doctor switches you to the regular pill, that will dry your milk up.

Supply and demand - the less you nurse, the less milk you will produce.

I wouldn't worry about evolving.... usually children start sleeping through the night without the 6am wake ups, and that's when you can ween him off the boob.

But please please, nomatter how much you enjoy this special time with him..... don;t be waking him up to nurse him, just because YOU can't let go of the habit.... that's just bad news.

Even if you lose your milk, he might suckle. It depends on the child's personality. I weaned my 3 year old, and she still wants to try, and she couldn't care less that they are empty. Some babies use it as a comfort thing, some strictly for a food source. It also depends on your body, as some women lose their milk fast, and some keep producing for (gasp) years after weaning.

My daughter nursed for comfort for several months after there was no milk. We were both sad to see it go.

Your body will adjust to how much he is requiring. Even if it is just one feeding a day, that's what your body will produce.
