Because we are at war, and talk is great but when the time to actually follow through and possibly die for your country comes up, your life almost always come first. Some do join up to die for their country and believe it worth it, most people don't however feel it worth it.

I can only hope that the recruitment problems which the military is currently undergoing are the direct result of sixty years of military abuse and misuse.

I cannot think of an occasion since ww2 that our military has been used for defensive purposes (keep in mind, the dominoe theory failed to pan out and was probably just pro-war propaganda to begin with).

Since ww2, we have embarked on MANY military endeavors, all seemingly in the name of protecting some corporate interest rather than protecting the American people.

Having said all that, as the disparity in wealth continues to increase here, I foresee a boost in recruitment over the next several decades (unfortunately, that boost may very well coincide with the crumbling of our society as we know it, but hey, small price to pay for more war)

Cynical enuff for ya? :)

People don't want to risk their lives for the current wars.

People would sign up if the U.S. was attacked....
After 9/11 people wanted to fight terrorism.

I think that too many people feel Iraq was not really justified, and as such, is not worth risking their life for.

Because many American youth are not actually as stupid as the US government wishes they were. To send US soldiers into battle on whims, without good cause, for power or for financial gain does not garner a free nation's government much respect by the people it would sacrifice for these spurious causes.

They are still making the goals, but it is hard. Alot of it is in the answers you see from alot of young people on here. They seem to disrespect the USA all they can, and they certainly will not risk anything to fight for her. Luckily we do have alot of very great brave patriotic people that come to their countries aid.

maybe it's because nobody wants to go over there and get their head chopped off. What parent wants to raise a wonderful human being, and have him or her sent back to them dismembered? or dead.
