To some degree, it depends on the company. However, a hiring manager wants to find a person who (1) can fulfill the requirements of the position, (2) will work hard and enthusiastically add value to the company without being a disruption, and (3) will fit in with the culture of the company.

Hiring managers don't want to make mistakes. Ensure you have asked enough questions about them in order to answer that question.

In reality, the question is a game and that is why it is so difficult to answer. The real, unmentionable answer is that you want the job so that you can make money, feed the family, make the house and car payments and... potentially have some quality interaction with others instead of wondering what Oprah will talk about today.

It's a tough question, but excellent choice. Companies ask this question for the sole purpose of evaluating your confidence, personality, and acumen. A good answer would be because you bring value to the company by doing xyz. But a better ask would be, I would not be good employee but a GREAT employee for the following reasons. I hope that helps.

I like big dog the pirate answer. I like to hear that you are a great employee overall, no issues, no problems and you have the right attitude to work through any situation that arises... oh and of course you have the qualifications to get the job done.

Please don't answer it with the boring crap about being a hard worker and showing up on time, and your only flaw being that you're a perfectionist. Stand out and be unique, that's the point of the question.
"I'd be a great addition to the team because I love this particular field of work, due to my passion for the job, my personality makes the office more fun" just anything but the boring crap.
