Ok so I went to go eat sushi at this restaurant I payed for half with my debit card for like $14 and some change. And when I signed the total. I forgot to write down a tip and then total that up. I just put down what I owed without thinking about a tip!!

Anyways 2 days later I check out my online bank statement and the bills was like $18 something. I was like WTF! And im assuming that, that is the amount of the tip i "supposed" to leave.

I mean...Are they allowed to do that by law? Can they get in trouble for for doing that? (because it kinda like them singing and taking out money from my account without my permision, you know? that's how I see it.)
Should I go back to the restaurant and get my money back? I should have called them to ask what that was about.
I know it's only like $4 but it's still money.

Call your bank to protest the charge. What the restaurant did was illegal and you don't have to pay it.

If eating places paid even minimum salary the charges could be so extreme that no person might have the skill to have adequate money to eat out. Servers many times are paid $3 or much less an hour and desire the information to make up the version. The others you talk of do make an ideal sales. you're incorrect. Servers won't take offense in case you tip. in actuality you're able to get greater effective service the subsequent time you circulate to the comparable eating place.

No, they don't have a right to include a tip for themselves...unless it says on the bill that they will add a certain amount of gratuity. But restaurants usually only do that when you have a large group of people. Call the restaurant and ask them their policy. If they do not automatically add tips...and do not have this printed on their bill, then they need to take the charge off.

That depends on whether it was posted in the restaurant or on the menu.."20% gratuity"(just an example),if so they may be able to.But just in case I would call the bank and the restaurant to find out.You can also fill out forms at the bank that block people unauthorized from taking money out of your account without your knowledge.

if you had a party of over 5 people, then they are entitled to charge a 10% even without asking. If you paid only for yourself, then they shouldnt have done it. If you dont want to get the waiter in trouble go to the restaurant and talk directly to him, if he denies it or is rude then go to the manager. You're right, it's only 4 dlls but the thing is they were disrespectful to a costumer and that should never be done.

yes, it is illegal. in the future if you don't want to leave a tip on your card write "cash" or mark a line thru the tip space so the waiter/ess can't fill it in for you. i'm sure most people don't check or don't care about $4 so that is why they try to get away with it. if you have the time i'd go by the restaurant and see what they say.

They can't do it.
Call your cc comapny and protest it...
Or call the restaurant and tell them you are going to protest it, they might just give you the $4.

It really is the principle of the thing.... not the dollar amount.
Maybe they'd give you a free meal.
