I am a woman in my 20s who was born with cerebral palsy. Despite my disability which causes me to have to use a wheelchair I have made the most of my life. During my college career I became involved with another student that also has a physical disability that causes him to use a wheelchair as well. We have now been dating for a few years and have developed a wonderful relationship. Our ultimate goal would be to be able to marry one another but with our disabilities it seems like an extremely complicated and maybe even impossible dream. I would be interested to hear any one’s thoughts on our situation, especially if anyone has had or knows someone who has had a similar experience.

Of course you can get married. Having a disability doesn't disqualify you for marriage. If you're in a loving relationship and wanting to take the next step, why shouldn't you? The only difference is you will either need to find a home that is wheelchair accessible, or have the doorways widened after you purchase your new home.

You're obviously intelligent since you both made it through college, so I'm sure you can manage your finances just fine. I don't understand why you would even question your ability to get married and share your life with someone you love.

I have a 5 year old son with CP, and although he can walk independently and is very intelligent, I hope he is lucky enough to fall in love and get married someday. Sometimes I worry that he may never find that person, due to his disability. You have found yours and yet you think that it may impossible. The fact that you even question that makes me sad.

If you both share the dream of being married someday, then do it! Nothing should stop you from being with the one you love.

I don't know anyone personally but I have seen inspirational stories of couples like yours. When a relationship has difficulties that can be overcome between the two of you (and they can, you've come a long way baby), you'll have a very strong relationship based on love and respect, which is ideal! Congratulations, I wish you both the best.

With every marriage comes complications. Nothing is impossibale. Those both said, my parents are both blind and have been happily married for almost 22 years now. If the feelings are there then it WILL work. I wish you two the best of luck!

Of course you should. I would suggest this to anyone--get pre-marital counseling and make certain you are compatible on the big aspects--like spirituality, what your values are regarding parenting, sex, finances,etc...I think the rest can be worked out. By the way, we are all broken people--just some of our brokenness is more visible than others. May God bless your
friendship and love and I rejoice with you!

Marriage is a human right practiced by two people in love. As long as you and your partner agree, by that is your decision.

Yes, you should get married, because unless your rich nobody else is going to marry you.
