Lauren is telling a big lie or making a stupid joke. There are no hippies and no one is throwing rocks. Probably she had a flashback to the Vietnam era.
To answer your question, I really don't know what to say. At first people were scared after 9/11. I'm not sure what they were more scared of - hypothetical terrorists or our government turning into a dictatorship. Now they know they can't trust a lot of what the media is saying and nothing that Fox News is putting out. Finally, there are some protests, which are peaceful, but the media almost always chooses not to cover them or plays the action way down.

Because they are afraid to get involved. THey are lazy and don't read or heed the news, or they are so busy working they are either having a hard time of it, or as others too busy running their kids to activities all day they just dont want to be bothered. Those are the wasps. Other people just give up until the whole damn country is falling down around there ears then they start protesting.

people have, say you go to a Bush rally and wear an anti-bush shirt you'll get arrested (my teacher sadly learned that) and ever if you dont even open your mouth. I tell you America has no freedom what so ever anymore. People try but they are too afraid to get arrested which the administration relies on this to have laws and passed without the consent or opion of anyone but the moron cowboys and indians in office

and not that un-patriotic (I served my country in somalia and recieved a bronze star as well as a purple heart)

1) Too busy running the world’s economy
2) Too busy watching TV or doing something else unconstructive.
3) We have it pretty good in America. There isn’t a whole lot to protest like in countries like China, et al.
4) People just don’t have the passion that they once had and in general don’t care.

Take your pick.

Compared to living conditions in the rest of the world, we pretty much live in the lap of luxury. What is there to protest about. If we think things suck, we get to vote in a whole new group of politicos every 4 years.

Well because America may not be perfect, it's a lot better than most other countries. Not much to complain about when you see on the news how other people live in other counties.

that's a good question. i think we're too comfortable with the state of things to stir up any trouble. there are a lot of things to protest about especially now.
