Depends on what kind of hardware your computer is running on. If you are still on ME odds are you should probably just upgrad your computer anyway.

I have heard many stories of ME being the absolutely flakiest OS out there, but I don't have any first-hand experience with ME. I currently run XP Home Edition, because that's what came pre-installed when I bought my computer. I've been thinking off and on of upgrading to XP Professional, but I don't have any real issues with HE so I probably won't until I "have to". In your case, I would say if ME is giving you any grief, upgrade to Professional, if you're managing acceptably, it may not be worth the hassle (not that there are differences between ME and XP that will give you fits, just the general observation that changing/upgrading OS is not quite like changing a light bulb) As far as harm, I would say no, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't back up your system first, you never know...Remember Murphy's Law. As far as speed, I would think if anything it'll run faster.

Windows Me is a parasite. Switching to XP will be better. ..but the switch depends on your hardware, whether or not it is up to the task. I upgraded a 6 year old Compaq running Win 98 to Win XP without any trouble. Before you do it though...if you have a CD burner back up any data you have on the harddrive because XP will want to reformat your harddrive because it uses a different format (NTSC rather than FAT 32). One other thing...don't use the upgrade version of XP. Get the full version or else you are in for a headache and a half. Good luck! :)

It depends, if u have the supporting hardware,u must upgrade it making sure that u have more then 128 RAM,
if u just have one partition u will lose all the data ,so what i suggest, during installing OS do no select the option which says, install new copy, select the option upgrade windows

best of luck, have a good day

simple answer is that an upgrade NEVER works as it's intended. You are ALWAYS better off with a clean install. Sorry for the bad news.

90% of upgrades I have done for customers or have seen have serious issues. I refuse to do them anymore.

Make sure you backup anything you consider important first. An upgrade normaly goes smooth but not always. Just remember, backup, backup, backup, backup, backup.

Then do the upgrade.

As for it slowing it down, it might. XP likes memory.

if you were running win98 or 2000, i would say stick with your current OS and save your money. but since you have had the misfortune to own the ME OS, known as THE absolute worst operating system known to man, you definitely want to upgrade. as for speed, so long as you have at least 256MB of ram, you will be fine.

Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)

ALL ELSE FAILS - RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!
