On November 6, 1963, two days after she turned 17, Bush (then Laura Welch) was driving her Chevrolet sedan with her classmate Judy Dyke. It was shortly after 8 p.m. on a clear night when Welch entered the intersection of State Highway 349 and Texas Farm Road 868 (now a four lane highway). Welch drove through the intersection's stop sign and collided with a Chevrolet Corvair sedan killing classmate Michael Dutton Douglas, also 17. Welch and Dyke sustained minor injuries; Douglas was later pronounced dead on arrival at Midland Memorial Hospital. Welch was not criminally charged in connection with the collision. In May 2000, a two-page police report about the car crash was made public, following a Freedom of Information Act request by journalists, due to the refusal of Midland officials to release the information. To this day, she does not talk publicly about the accident

That was an accident. I know of people who were driving when a fatal accident happend! Unless they were drunk of unless they hit and run, they are not criminals...Many people do not want to talk about the most traumatic incidents of their lives...and this one seems to be one.
If you are a Democrat, go after her husband. You ought to be ashamed slinging mud like this.

I don't necessarily care about Laura Bush, anymore than I care for any of the other Bushes, as I'm way too liberal to even consider their type of politics.
With that said, I think that pointing out Laura's past is a low blow. I'm sure she's having to live with this every single day and it was an accident, plus Douglas was also her boyfriend. And to use this to undermine Bush's presidency is as much of a low blow as anything the Neocons would use.
Don't drop down to their level, because it will only give them more ammunition to come after us.

Why should she talk about it? It was probably a horrible day in her life. And now she has to live with that guilt! She wasn't drunk, she was just driving too fast, and aren't we all guilty of that once in a while? It was ruled an ACCIDENT and that is just what it was. I like Laura Bush a while lot more than her husband (and that is NOT saying much). She shouldn't be persecuted for what happened that long ago.

sounds like an accident just like you said. That doesn't make her a killer.
If Ted Kennedy was not put in jail for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, then Laura Bush isn't going to be branded a killer.

What others may not have insight to is the relationship between Welch and Douglas. That may shed light on your question.....

Why was that guy in a Corvair? Didn't he know they were unsafe at any speed according to Ralph Nader?
Do us all a favor and look up the word "accident".

are you going to call every person that gets in an accident a killer? that's ridiculous. If she was under the influence of something, wouldn't it be a different cirumstance? yea, that sucks and I'm sure she has lived with it her whole life, but people love her for what she stands for and every education goal she has helped fulfill.

First, please provide me with a credible link.
Second...if this is true, and I say if....there is a reason they are called accidents.
And if it's true and the media used the FOIA to obtain information...just another example of their liberal bias. They didn't use the FOIA to obtain Kerry's Vietnam records after he refused to release them....
