I don't know that there is a legal age or method to be allowed to move out, but you will not be able to enter into a legal contract (i.e. buy a house or rent a place in your name) until you are 18. In general, there's not much you can legally do on your own before 18 years old. I would stay at home, I know it seems like it will be forever but I'd do anything to have my parents paying for everything again! Living alone is expensive, especially if you have a lot of pets. In the first 6 months I was married and living out of my parents house we spent like $1800 just on our pets because of unexpected vet visits and things, forget about bills and groceries. Be patient, the time will come for you to move out on your own and by then you will be able to handle it financially. If you're under 18 you should still be in school, and there's no way you can work enough to pay the bills while you're in school (not and still have any fun anyway, and then what's the point of having your own place if you're never there?)

It all depends on your maturity level, and where you live! I am 20, but I still live at home because I am a student and can't afford housing on my own, and my parents won't pay for it. If housing for apartments is pretty expensive in your city, beware. Unless your parents are paying, you would have to work full time making at least $10 to even come close to affording the utilities, rent, groceries, etc. The only way might be to find a friend in the same situation who needs a roommate. I guess the way to prove to your parents you are ready is actively look at apartments and find a well paying job. But don't jump the gun, here. I am in the same boat... I want a dog so bad, but my mom won't let me!! But when I went to look at apartments, I realized how damn expensive it is. I can only work part time because of school... so I would have to have a roommate. I have a friend who would be interested... but when I thought about it, I realized that I don't really want to be broke and stuck in a 12 month lease, and be struggling to make rent, just so I can say I moved out. Really think about whether it's worth the money, and remember that everything is free at home. I've decided to stay here for now, until I am absoloutley sure I have the money, because it's not worth being broke. So good luck... and maybe you can get your parents to compromise on some of those pets! :)

I believe you're looking for a judge to give you "legal emancipation", this makes you leagally independent. But you have to do more than ask the judge for it. You would have to present your evidence (you'll probably need your own lawyer & they're not cheap). Your parents would have one too & probably a better one since they have more money. And then there's court fees & you'll need a nice suit to show the judge you're a responsible young person to be taken seriously. And then after you put out all that money the judge may not even side with you. Not to mention how much it costs to live on your own. So you better think about this. It may seem like a long time until you turn 18 but you will have many years to do what you want as an adult.

Legal emancipation is only suitable if you have an extremely well paying job, are mature enough to live on your own or if the court deems your parents as unfit to guardian you.
You're underage right? Please listen to your parents and follow their direction...they really know what they're talking about. If your situation involves abuse of any kind, call the police and seek help immediately. But if you're just hardheaded & want to "be an adult & live on your own," think again. As an adult, I have my own set of adult problems, which are way more dramatic & altering than teenager problems are. Understand that you parents want the best for you & love you...

17 in Texas, but you have to be 18 to sign a contract; ie get an apartment. Younger if you can prove you can live on your own, have your own source of income, and your parents agree. Then you have to go to court, and have them emancipate you. I would suggest you suck it up at home until you are older.

Actually you can do it, any time you're ready to. I once heard that legally, parents don't have to be responsible for what you do, when you turn 18. But I think to move out, you actually ahve to be 19 or older. Gut go ahead and convince them!

Can you do some home rennovations that will put an outside entry door in your room? Perhaps this would give you the independence you crave before you hit 18.

If your parents are treating you harshly, you can go to court for an emancipation, which means that you don't live with your parents, but they pay for part of your living. Otherwise, wait until your 18.

when you can pay your bills, rent, food, education needs, if you are doing that now, you should move if you want, if Mom and Dad are paying your bills, you are not ready.
