I got x = 9. Is that right? Here's the steps I took:

27^2 = x^3
729 = x^3
9 = x

If I'm not right, where did I go wrong? Thanks...

√(x³)=x^(3/2)=27
x=27^(2/3)
x=9

Edit: Yes, you did the problem correctly. Those posting conflicting answers simply don't understand the problem.

Actually, there is one real and 2 imaginary answers, if you have learned to factor the diff. of two cubes.

You started right: x^3 = 729.

So x^3-729=0

Factoring, we get (x-9)(x^2+9x+81)=0.

You get x=9 from the first factor. From the second, you use the quadratic formula to get

x=[-9+/-sqrt(81-4*81)]/(2) = [-9+/-sqrt(-243)]/2

= [-9 +/- i*sqrt243]/2 = [ -9 +/- 9i*sqrt 3]/2 for the other 2 values of x.
