What do you mean IF ???? The US is on Iran's doorstep already, in case you were asleep for the last four years. Syria is quivering at the prospect of US troops on its doorstep (oh wait, what is Incirlik anyway?). I think Israel is managing well on its own. Iran and Syria will use every terrorist they can first and then negotiate their way back to security from US bombs once Israel does decimate the forces of Hezbollah/Hamas.

This is a proxy war, if Syria and Iran really wanted to mix it up, they would by now. Iran however, is looking to gain long range missile technology to overcome the distance between it and Israel. I just don't understand that kind of investment, and for what economic benefit?

Iran and Syria are already the major sponsors of Hezbollah. Syria won't do anything because Israel would clean their clocks, too.

Iran can't do anything because they can't reach Israel. This is why Iran is developing nuclear weapons, and trying to buy missles from North Korea. Iran continuing down this path, will ensure the distruction of Iran.

Nothing unless Israel had already occupied Lebanon,(In which case Israel launched neuclear strikes are likely against Iran and Syria.
.The USA already left Lebanon (with its tail between its legs) and Israel troops left the last period of occupation of Lebanon in humiliation.
The USA can't cope with the monetary cost and demands on military manpower now in Iraq and Afghanistan.So near term military adventures are unlikely unless in defence of israel.
Bush really is Israel's b i t c h and the American taxpayers are paying $3 bn + for it.

I think that would give the USA sufficient justification to go into the Middle East, since they would be encroaching on the sovereignty of Israel, one of only a handful of nations whom we have good diplomatic ties with in that region.

I suppose in such an instance, the US would do what the US does best; that is fight a technologically sophisticated war were we would take out large armaments of the Iranian and Syrian militaries, and then we would invade the region and do a terrible job of keeping the peace, thus resulting in the deaths of a multitude of our soldiers in guerrilla style warfare.

well... the problem with Iran is... it would be hard for them to get troops/supplies from Iran to get near Israel, since Iraq is between the two and has a large US force there...we would probably notice...
