We have an option in our school, where if your teacher aprroves it, you can take Algerba 1 in 8th grade, so in high school you can be a grade ahead in math. Do other school offer this?

The same thing happened to me when I lived in Las Vegas, but when I moved to California and Montana, they took Geometry in the 8th grade and Algebra in the 7th.

Some schools in the UK are offering something similiar where, if kids are competent enough, they can start their Standard Grade course a year earlier (this is a course that kids usually start when they are about thirteen/fourteen years old).

I did that when I was in school (VA). I think it's a good idea because a lot of students are really ready to start algebra by that time. It causes less boredom for students who are ready for algebra.

At my high school, that was normal - you took either Algebra I or Pre-Algebra in eighth grade, and then in ninth took either Algebra I or Geometry.

i took algebra in 8th grade and was ahead a year. i live in massachusetts.

yes, it is very common to have several math courses with one or two being more advance then the grade level.
