Homosexuality has existed for as long as there has been recorded history. It was especially prevalent among Greece and Rome, socially accepted in the former and disdained but practiced in the latter. Societally in Greece it served as an important bond, and "filia (or philia)" or the friendship love and amiability was considered to be a higher form of love than "aros", sexual love and attraction.
You will find that those opposed to homosexuality did so on the basis of either villifying those that shared an entire viewset they wished to demonify or times where the population was especially threatened or otherwise endangered. In spite of the fact that many of the most popular religions will preach a message of tolerance, you will find that those are the ones who are the quickest to condemn it based on the tenants of their religion's writings. But these were writings of a different time that were relevant to a different society, and very few of those people will practice ALL of those things that are written down, because some of them simply aren't relevant anymore (wearing two different kinds of cloth, planting fields of different types next to each other, ect...). Unfortunately, the written word has made religions who use it as a basis of belief far more rigid and less adaptable (see Sic et Non by Peter Abelard) than is necessary in a world that always changes and adapts. In this way, they are as counter-intuitive to the evolutions and natural adaptations of cultures as they claim homosexuality is to natural processes.
I can't say whether or not it's something one is or isn't born with. The only one that can ever truly answer that question would be the people to feel it. Unfortunately, those who don't feel that way somehow think it their right to judge the feelings of others simply because they do not understand it, and are unwilling to account for the possibility that something outside of their perception could still be a valid feeling, even if it isn't to them. Traditionally, lack of comprehension naturally leads to fear and ostracism by human instinct. Things that are different are terrifying, especially if they threaten to bring change, another thing that is generally feared by human instinct. Whether or not they choose it is, however, rather irrelivant in the end. No human being has the right to tell another how they love, whether or not they willingly choose it.
There is also the belief that homosexuality is a detriment to the human species which is contrary to our breeding instinct. Given the number of things we do that are contrary to instinct (we have an entire section of science, forensics, just for finding people who killed others), it seems a rather self-defeating argument as well... Unfortunately, those who espouse the idea of something being against instinct or evolution or natural orders often do so only to the level of their own personal convenience.
Whether or not it's disgusting based on a personal level of taste is honestly no one's business but their own. I personally find people who wear pink, puffy anything to be disgusting, but that's their choice to make. As long as they keep their sexual lives in their own private lives, anyone else who chooses to dislike that is intruding into someone's private life to object to it. If it personally offends them to see a couple holding hands and kissing in public, then consider that others dislike seeing heterosexual couples doing the same, homosexuals and heterosexuals alike. If you allow a certain level of social behavior, you have to accept that sometimes there will be those who find it distasteful. But just like the fact that I would vastly prefer it if the people wearing pink, puffy things would cease doing it entirely, it's just a pink puffy thing, and my own level of dislike is not grounds for discrediting unharmful behavior.
... Yeah, this was mixed with a lot of my pro-homosexuality beliefs. But it also did list some of the reasons that people fear as well. I just also listed why I disagree with those beliefs because I'm ever so pushy.

It's the whole "ick" factor. Some people start thinking about the details and get to wrapped up in the fact that they think it's "gross."
Smoothie is totally right. There is such a double standard.
dark0wn3r---WTF? Homosexuals are "spiritually corrupt" and "disgusting, repulsive, etc." yet you (a self-proclaimed "morally upright person") post questions like these:
"What do you have a fetish for?"
"What is your favorite porno?"
And last, but certainly my favorite:
"Ladies only...? Would you give a guy head on the first date?"
So God's okay with being a pervert, as long as it's directed toward the opposite sex? I'd rather be in hell with a bunch of homos than spend five minutes with a creep like you. Jeez.

Well I am not a homosexual but I am not one of those people, I don't think it is disgusting. I just think people are afraid of what they don't understand. I would say don't let them bring you down, that's what they set out to accomplish. The super-Christians or whatever you want to call them look down on everyone who isn't a super-Christian like them. Divorced, gay, different religions, don't go to church 7 days a week, whatever. They think everyone is inferior to them.

By very nature it is an unnatural act. No matter what, sexual gratification comes with the opposite sex, or at least something that mimmicks the opposite sex. Think about it.
Homosexuality is unnatural, and it is a worship of the creation rather than the creator.
More than this though, it is the very fact that the gay and lesbian movement is trying to force their opinions and beliefs on everyone, and their political agenda is to make it a hate crime to even disagree with their lifestyle. Therefore it is as much a hatred of the agenda and the methods as it is the act.
There is a movement underway to discredit anyone who disagrees with gays and lesbians - their desire is to get people to believe they are born that way. They are not - it is their choice. All we have to do is look at what is intended with sex. It is to increase the population - to breed - to procreate. This cannot happen in the gay and lesbian world - therefore leading credence to the very fact that it is unnatural.

Sometimes people fear those who are different then themselves. Or they fear they may become like them and don't understand how life and nature works. Other times people just THINK they are suppose to act disgusted because that is how their friends act.

Homosexuals are evolutionarily stupid, spiritually corrupt, and part of the AIDS epidemic. Tell me why they wouldn't be disgusting to any sane, logical, and/or morally upright person?
They are an abomination in the eyes of God. They are weird. If you're a homo, you should know....you are going to burn in the fire everlasting. Disgusting, repulsive, filthy, perverse, evil, and diseased. Homosexuals don't have souls. They are better off dead. Eventually, nature will rid the earth of this disease.

It depends on who you ask, and who you are talking about. If you ask a guy about two lesbians, most likely we'll say we have no problem seeing it. Two dudes however, is a different story. Yeah, it's a double standard, but it's the truth.

Because most people have a general sense of what's right and what's wrong. When they see or hear of an act of perversion, it disgusts them.

you know in like school there is the popular crowd and the dorks? they are separated because they are completely different. blacks and whites- different skin. but if they got to know them, they might see eye to eye. same thing with gays and lesbians. there just different. people don't like others who are just different from them.
and for that guy up there, the one who says they are aweful- what if you were gay? would you still say that? sometimes people just get attracted to their sex. it happens. EVERYONE IS EQUAL IN THE EYES OF GOD. HE LOVES THEM NO MATTER WHAT. don't believe me- just read the bible.

I think sometimes people fear anyone different from themselves. Sometimes people dislike what they don't understand. Then again, you have some people that just plain hate.
