Why do women think that being fat is gross?

besides health risks, I don't understand why women think that if they're fat they're gross.

Society has painted fatness as gross and ugly for generations and it unfortuantley causes women to think that they are gross. I my self am a big girl I dont consider myself obesse because I have alot of muscle tone and am very active. However in some eyes I am considered homely because of the weight and the size I wear. The average size of a american girl is 14 and that is not small Marylynn Monroe was a chunky 16..... I say we be like the dove commercials Love our selves the way we are.....

Women who are over weight are not "gross". And they think that way because society has twisted "fat" into something that is so gross and nasty that "fat girls" don't even want to be seen in public. That is a crying shame.

America I think is the only country that looks at being fat as something so disgusting and awful, that I've heard people say we should be shot to be put out of our misery? Yet, in other countries it's seen as beautiful. Why is that?

This is the reason why you have so many women who have low self esteem about themselves because they allow people to put them into this "false" category. It boggles my mind the way some people talk about women who are fat, to me it's pure ignorance and hate.


I'm a F.A.T girl (Fabulous and Thick) and I decided to stop letting society rule my life a long time ago. Being fat does have its health risks but so does smoking and doing drugs. Even though I am F.A.T I do exercise and go to the doctor on a regular bases. But the day when I decide to change in order to fit in and not to better my lifestyle is the day I need to be shot and put out of my misery. It doesn't do me any good to mope around and be a hermit.

I think that if more women stopped paying attention to what people think about them, stop trying to fit into some perfect mold and except who they are, and continue to break barriers and stereotypes etc. then women in general will truly be happy with themselves and just live life. Carpe Diem baby!

Mostly because the world revolves around what the opposite sex thinks. Since most guys are drooling over pin-ups of the barbie anorexic type figure... of course girls would think that if they are even a bit overweight that they're not going to ever attract attention!

Why do you think most girls dye their hair blond? Because guys are suddenly into the playboy blond girls. I bet you if playboy started showing less anorexic blond girls and more plump but curvy girls with more differently colored hair, that guys would have a different look on girls and girls wouldn't be so worried about if she ate too much at breakfast or if she forgot her diet pills at home.

All in all... why do most women think that being overweight, even if it's a little bit, is gross? Three words: Men and media.

Most people think that being fat is something that a person can control. And in most cases yes they can...and in some cases they have genetics and other medical problems to deal with...The sad thing is that people judge them without even taking a second look. You could of asked the same question about 'Skinny" chicks.....you would get allot of the same replies. What it should come down to is, if you comfortable the way you then be happy and not care what people think of you. No one but God has the right to judge and he isn't going to care when you show up to see him!

You're sweet. No woman wants to be fat. What's the appeal? We've all - men & women - taught that being fat is not a good thing. Thin is what appeals to the masses. If a guy likes a big girl he's made fun of by his friends. Big girls can't win for losing. They are just people like everyone else.

Because the media, the television, the movies, the videoclips, the actresses, the actors and all the Hollywood stars are skinny... I said skinny, not thin... they're like anorexic... that's what there is. What the tv shows us, that's that we are gonna follow. They make us think what's right. To buy the latest things, the most expensive and to be the most beautiful person ya gonna have to be thin. Thats what media says. But everyone has his own beauty on his own way.

well speaking from experience i can tell you that many BIGGER women, dont call us fat or gross its rude, feel like what ur are saying because society and celebrities and everything is showing us that being skinny is the right way to be but i dont think looking like nicole richie is any healthier than being overweight. we feel gross because a lot of the time people are telling us we are ugly and fat and not worth dating and things like that. some women however are proud of themselves. it is not that we dont take pride in ourselves, we do but its hard when people tell us other wise.

Because it's unhealthy to be fat, however it is also unhealthy to be underweight. So women should just try sticking to being a healthy weight and not striving to look like size 0 supermodels!

I'm a size 6-8, I'm not fat and I'm not skinny, but I think I'm just right and I know I am healthy.

Because Society is built that way. If you watch any tv there are no fat women glorified. They are looked at like the AIDS virus. They magazines really dont have any fat or thick models. That effects people more than they let on. The same goes with fat guys, they are looked at like SARS. I should know Im a fat dude. I love thick chicks. Skinny girls especially the models, look sick. They feel in this modern day with Twiggy thin girls running around that they are unattractive. Its called low self esteem and its induced by the trends set in the sixties in an attempt to get people to look more at the clothing lines than the women in them.
