Does anyone here have a tattoo? Could you please tell me your experience with it? I'm thinking of getting one on or around my ankle, but I'm kind of nervous about the pain. Thanks!

I have half sleeves on both arms, which means both arms are completely covered in tattoos. My left is asian themed & my right is a mish mash of asian & buddhist themes; my ankle has a japanese theme & I intend to get much more done.

I had extremely positive experiences getting tattooed, my tattooist was a family friend, who had tattooed like everyone in my family, including my mom & stepdad.

Ankle tattoos are generally more painful, because there isn't much fat to act as a cushion, only bone. Tattoos on bone are a special kind of pain!

Really think hard about your expectant artwork, because even though you can laser off shoddy work, it still leaves a visible scar & is more painful than the actual tattoo. Good luck in finding a piece that will satisfy your personal standards of beauty & make sure that the tattooist uses new needles, autoclaves his gun & that you tip him/her if you are happy with the work!

the ankle is all bone so it may hurt to get tattooed there. more than other parts of your body.

I have a tattoo which is just above my chest... a Celtic symbol which the artist flipped over and redrew, to create a "broken wings" effect. It's very pretty but I'm afraid I don't know what the symbol means. It tickled to be tattooed there- it didn't really hurt. (I was laying down on my back, on a hospital bed-type table when it was done)

My other tattoo is a fairy, from the mid-thigh up, and it's on my right shoulderblade. That is a more bony area of my body than the location of the other tattoo, so it hurt more. Also, I need to add that when it was done, I was sitting up in a chair so I was trying to stay completely still while the artist was working. So the concentration on staying stll possibly made it hurt more, inadvertently.

Think very hard about where exactly you want your tat to be. If you have a low tolerance for pain, you do not want it on a bony area of your body.

I have 4 tattoos, and I am not the typical type. 3 of them are hidden where nobody can see them. One is on my ankle.
Yes, it is painful. But it depends on where it is. Sometimes it even tickles. I love my tattoos. I suggest you think a lot about what you want to get, because it will be with you FOREVER. I love mine more every day, but they each have a deep meaning for me, and mark special moments in my life. (that said, never get someone's name tattooed on you.)
Take some pain killers or advil (NOT asprin) before you get your tattoo. Dont drink alcohol before you get it done. (some people think that would help.)
Yes, it will hurt. But the needles are small, so it isnt too bad.
Start with a really small tattoo to see how it feels. You can always add to it later! (my first one was only 1 inch tall. My 4th is about 6 inches tall.)
Also, Im not sure about the bony part hurting more, since the one on my spine hurt the least.
Another thing- use bacitracin ointment after, but NOT neosporing like someone suggested. That will make the tat scab up and scar over the tattoo.
good luck!

The closer to the bone you are is when it hurts more. After a while the area you have tattooed kind of goes numb. The more detailed that tattoo the longer it will take also. It's going to hurt no matter what but that's all part of getting the tattoo.

I have 1 and the only one I will get. Yes it did hurt, but after a while it got numb. The ankle part is pretty skinny, It will prolly hurt some, kinda like a bee sting. Good luck and make sure it is what you really want.

it is painful and if it gets infected or if needles are dirty itcan be more than painful.

try a henna tattoo - it lasts a long time but will not permanently mark you - i saw an old lady with a tatto the other day and it did not look good .

if you decide you still want one permamnently put it where it can't be seen and only enjoyed by you.

be sure to go to a reputable tattoo parlor if one exists - lol sorry i'm sure they do

My brother recently got one. Make sure it's a clean place. Remember this is done with needles - so be extra careful on the place you pick.

Don't mean to scare you...but as he was getting his tattoo, the artist was telling him about some place that are not clean...and could catch Hepatitis or even more dangerous infections.

Just make sure it's a clean place.

My brother got a ying/yang...I must say...it does look good.

When I got mine it really hurt...I am not very good with pain, it just felt like somone was pinching my skin over and over...

If you want one around your ankle there is a lot of bone and it is going to hurt more than if your got one where there is a lot of fat.

Personally I would never get another one just b/c I am a baby about pain and I dont want to go through with it again!

Good luck to you.

That's exactly where I (and my two best friends) have my tattoo; right, inner ankle with the Chinese symbol for "friend"; It took about 15 minutes to do and didn't really hurt at all! Just like a "zizzing" sensation....

Mine is on my ankle...above the ankle bone. Did not hurt. Just keep Neosporin (or something like that)on it for a week (I wrapped mine in plastic wrap also). Do not itch it at all! It will pull the color out of it. Make sure whoever does is clean and sterile!
Good luck:)
