Keep the window and doors closed and set the A/C thermostat to 76/77 degrees. You don't want a meat cooler in your house. What you want to do is to remove the humidity out of the house. That how the A/C system works by removing humidity. Now depending where you live, you may have to adjust your thermostat to what region you live. The best that you can hold the temperature in your house is about 15 to 20 degrees below your outside temperature. So, if it 100 degrees outside, the most that is blowing threw your vents is 80 to 85 degrees. Be reasonable and don't expect that you can drop the temperature to 65 degrees.
If you want efficiency, buy yourself a set back digital thermostat. They are more accurate on temperature and you can set different temperature for morning, during the day and evening hours that are comfortable for you and your family.
Good Luck
