Most likely it is something that is naturally found in your water, but the ice (the cold temperature) causes it to fall out of solution. A 'flaky' substance is probably a salt - maybe you have hard water (full of minerals), or the water used to make the ice has it? Anyway, metals, especially with calcium, fall out (precipitate) out of solution when in complexed with another anion (in this case, probably carbonic acid from the CO2 in your water). Temperature changes (chilling the water) causes a lower solubility of these precipitates, causing them to be seen.

All I can say is 1) it wont hurt you and 2) if you want to get rid of them you need softer water.

Where I live there are lots of minerals in the water and they settle to the bottom of the glass. Actually those minerals are good for you, but people don't like them because it looks like dirty water.

it is called calcium deposit, it comes from hard water so just get a water filtering system like the britta water pitcher and extra filters and you won't have that problem with ice cubes again or with the water either.

I just swim in the stuff and don't ask questions about it. My first guess would be cheek cells, or since it is ice water, maybe you've got some coogulated saliva settin' there.

It's just precipitated calcium carbonate (limestone) from the ice. Freezing causes it to precipitate.

It's good for you- puts calcium in your system.

its either stuff coming off your pipes, or minerals precipitating out because of your pipes. won't hurt you, but you might wanna invest in a filtration system.
