If I think I started having a miscarriage last night, what should I do?
How much would an ER bill be? in the hundreds, or near the thousands? I do not have any health insurance, and I am miles away from home.
What will happen at the ER, how will they tell if I had one. What happens if I did lose the baby?
Would finding an OB-GYN near me and trying to get in asap be a better option, or an option at all?
I'm very scared and confused.

I made a post earlier today with details about what was going on, the main replies were that I had a miscarriage. I guess you can read that post by clicking on my name link?

Sweetie, first of all calm down. You will be fine. You should open up your phone book and see if there is a free clinic in your area. If you think you are having a miscarriage you need to tell them that right away. what symptoms are you having? bleeding, cramping? How far along are you?
You can't let it go - you need to be evaluated. cost is not the issue right now. If you let it go and something goes wrong you could get very very sick from it. I suggest looking for a free clinic and going ASAP. If you have to - go to the ER or call a local ob/gyn and tell them your situation. You have no insurance but think you are having a miscarriage. I am sure they will take you in. Good luck hon and please email me at Cyndi71@aol.com to let me know how you are doing. God bless! And please, don't delay in getting help.

ER visits generally are pretty expensive. No matter what your problem, it will be at least a couple of hundred dollars to even talk to a doc. You would definitely be better off seeing an OB_GYN. They will cost less and also avoid waiting for hours in an ER. You might want to call the Health Department where you are or Planned Parenthood for help.
It is important that you see a doctor. If you start feeling really bad, soak more than one pad an hour, or run a fever, get to the ER. They may need to do a D&C to clear you uterus.
You can take Tylenol, but not other pain relievers (due to bleeding issues). This must be a terrible thing to go through. I hope that you find a compassionate medical provider and heal.

What makes you think you are having a miscarraige? If you can find an obgyn that will see you ASAP that would be better than the ER but make sure you go to one or the other TODAY! Of course ER bills vary from state to state, when I went for my last possible miscarraige the bill was a little over $1000 but most will let you make payments. In the ER they will do blood work to get your HCG counts to see if its where it should be for how far along you are and then they will do a vaginal exam to see if your cervix is closed and they will do a ultrasound, usually a vaginal ultrasound to see the baby and the sac and see what is going on. If you did lose the baby they will probably either follow your HCG counts down to zero with a gyn or schedule a D&C. I wish you much luck and if you need to talk message me I have had three miscarraiges.

I am not sure where you are located, but a lot of ER's have a number you can call and just talk to someone and they will determine whether or not you need to come in. ER bills are HIGH with no insurance. If you did in fact have a miscarriage there isn't much you can do. They cannot stop it. The only thing they could do is give you and exam and see if everything came out. If not they would have to do a D&C. Call the closest OB/GYN and see if they can get you in, it will be cheaper and if you aren't hemmorhaging horribly, it is definitely an option.

firstly why do you think you are having a miscarraige? did you have a positive pregnancy test? if so , and now you are bleeding red a lot, then yes, its likely. If you are VERY early along, im not sure its neccessary to see a doctor, you could let nature take its course. if you are not VERY early along you might need a D&C and you really should consult with a doctor.. is there a health line you can call for nurse advice or something?
if you know you were pg for sure, the ER would do an u/s (vaginal if you are early on) and bloodwork to confirm you had a miscarraige.
and YES an OB would be a perfectly fine option, you dont need to go to the ER unless it is after hours, or on a weekend or you are in an emergent situation (extreme bleeding, pain etc). THe ER did prescribe me a medication to cause contractions of the uterus but it really made me sick so i dont think i even finished it.. Just saying an OB might or might not do that depending on your situation, but they would essentially do the same thing, sonogram and bloodwork.
Edited to add: if you are not in severe pain or having severe bleeding, fever, etc. it is NOT an emergency.. I had to go to the ER when having mine b/c it was a holiday weekend.. i waited almost 12 or 13 hours, b/c it was NOT considered "emergent", they saw everyone in that waiting room before me. If you are having one, they can do nothign to stop it anyway.. I just needed to know, myself.

I just had a miscarriage last weekend. i startted spotting which I knew was weird and the nurses just kept telling me it was fine and normal because it wasnt heavy bleeding. I KNEW in my heart that something was not right. When I was pregnant with my son nothing like this ever happened, I felt really distant from this baby. I was 10 weeks pregnant and the baby was only 7.5 weeks. If you feel like something is wrong then you need to go to the doctor asap. They did a D & C (basically an abortion) on me because it obviously wasnt going to come out on it's own, which can cause serious infection. That's why you should go, so you dont risk your health. If you go to an ER they might have an OBGYN on call. Good luck

My wife had a couple of miscarriages. We went to the ER. There are a few things that they do. They will do a pelvic exam. They also take a urine test and check the value of a enzyme or protein...I forget which. They provide you with the reading on that. Then they suggest that you go to your OBGYN a couple of days later to have that test taken again and they compare the levels of that protein. If it has dropped, it indicates that you had a miscarriage and are no longer pregnant.
This is the same enzyme/protein that a home pregnancy test looks for.
If you have had a miscarriage, it's not the end of the world. Hopefully, you aren't very far along. It is unbelievably common to have misscarriages early on. More common than you might expect. i think it's something like 1 in 4 or 5 pregnancies end in a miscarriage. You will move on. We had a couple of them. Since then we've had two very healthy kids!!
Good luck.

Go to your nearest OBG-YN if the bill make you nervous. They can tell by giving you a gynecological exam, they will see if your uterus has started to open, they may suggest blood tests for hormone count. If you did lose the baby,I am so sorry honey. They will clean you up at a hospital or private clinic. But you can always try again...I know it is hard, the very same thing happened to me last summer,I had complications though, doesn't mean it is going to happen to you.So sit tight, find yourself a doctor before freaking out, because you may not have lost the baby.If you need someone to talk to do not hesitate to reach me.
Good luck and God bless.

You don't need to go to the ER. Go see an OB-GYN. You need to be checked to make sure everything is gone. You will need to wait six months before trying to conceive again.
