When I was a kid, I remember when my sister was a baby, and she had the hiccups, they would put a wet peice of tissue on her forehead to relieve her from the hiccups. I seriously doubt that works. What other myths do you know of?

I must have heard dozens (maybe hundreds) of myths while growing up. I can't tell you how many people told me that if I went outside without a coat I'd 'catch a cold' or that eating too much chocolate would cause acne. Oh, and I'm sure I was told at least a couple of times not to hold a book too close to my eyes or sit too close to the TV, else I might damage my eyesight. These myths are all, of course, completely false. I'm just glad that I'm not as gullible as I was then.

A myth I'd hear frequently when I was growing up was that if I went into the pool too soon after eating, I'd get serious stomach cramps and drown.
(My grandpa and grandma had a pool in their backyard, and my family would spend a lot of time there.)While it's not neccessarily true that a person would drown if entering the water too soon after eating, they might experience nausea and feel a little uncomfortable, especially if they were moving around a lot.So it is a good idea to wait about 20-30 minutes after eating to participate in any sport, including swimming.
