well this is easy if yo have the correct equipment. Put it in a large vacuum vessel and pump it down to the point of failure of the containers seal. Next, fill the chamber up with water. Once filled, pump the liquid into a 1600C refractory furnace equipped with a wet gas scrubber to remove any SO2. Treat the resultant SO2/water mixture with sodium hypochlorite so that residual free chlorine in 40 PPM. Next add ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to remove the free chlorine (dont want to smell it either right). Repeat the process at least 10 time, dumping the vacuum discharge into the same furnace. Should completely get rid of the waste w/o smell.

Either that or hold your noise whilst chucking it into someones yard.

Leave some food in there, did you? You could try opening it under water... but even then the bubbles will release the gas. It won't be as bad though.

I'm going to assume something rotted. However, if the container is truly airtight, nothing will be able to grow inside and it won't stink. Usually that stink you smell is the bacteria that's decomposing the material.

Just make sure, if you do open it, the wind is blowing away from you. It might also be god to have some disinfectant handy. Open it and spray form a distance. That way it will be a little less germy.

Good luck to you and your airtight container.

I don't think you can. You can vent in a fume hood to protect yourself from the vapors, but if it smells, it smells.

Either hold your breath or hold it in the direction of flowing air flowing away from you.
