She was in two short films referred as "Technical Virgin" discussing the subject of sex.

This was seven years ago. But because you can view them on the internet, PBS fired her.

What an absolutely crazy decision from the show producers. Penalizing someone for as independant project that was intended as a spoof, and was in no way inapropriate for a young aspiring actress is just wrong. I was watching sesame street with my son the other day, and Julia Roberts was the guest star. OMG Sprout she played a prostitute in a movie once, you better cut sesame street off the air too... I wish they would reconsider their terrible decision.

Absolutely they should not have fired her. The amount of change a person can go through in seven years can be quite daunting, and what was done then (and not even seriously) should not be held in judgment now.

Besides, my daughter really liked Melanie. She will be missed.

No. Absolutely not. This is one of the silliest things I have seen in quite some time. Shame on PBS.

Good to know something said a decade ago will ultimately cost you your job. That is such total crap. Like a 5 year old would have any idea what she was talking about, if the the kid ever actually saw it.
