Run antivirus software (norton, panda) then run spyware checks (spybot, adaware) because this is most likely a virus causing problem, probably a trojan, if you must turn off the PC immediately, then Press and hold the power Button for about 15 seconds

well first i would try the ctrl alt delete thing and bring up the task manager and see if there are any programs running that can be ended and then if that didn't do the trick I would hold down the power button for about 10 or 15 seconds and if that does not work unplug the thing. That will definetly do the trick. When you boot back up watch your screen from the beginning to the end and it may need to do a safe mode thing, it does, but I figure the ctrl alt delete will fix you up. Run your antivirus when you log back on just to be on the safe side and see if your firewall is on.

Press and hold the power button on the front of your computer for 4-5 seconds. That will shut it down. Much better than pulling the plug out of the wall.

It's a good idea to wait about 30 seconds before you start it up again.

You may have to either hold the button in until it shuts off or unplug it. Next time you turn it on, you will probably need to run a system scan.

Restart your computer and then shut it down. Probably one of the processes is still running. Restarting your PC would close all running applications and processes and it may result in loss of unsaved data, but it is worth a try.
Good luck.
