A few years ago, I remember that Internet Explorer allowed for the option of NOT downloading images for a page, - it helped load pages faster for a 56 k modem.

Go check Tools / Options / advanced.. Under advanced / Multimedia .. show pictures

No, it doesnt' have anything to do with Java. It is because there isn't a picture there. Whomever the site belongs to, needs to make sure that their 'root directory' has these pictures in it before going 'live' (online) or you just get little red x's.
