In our field of work we come in contact with lots of diverse people. Often my co-worker makes statements that she knows when someone is gay because her gaydar goes off. I have been out fo the closet for about 18 years (and lived in CA) and I have never heard a straight person say they have "gaydar". Not that there is anything wrong with it. But often she is wrong (she thinks any femme guy is gay) and we think that she says it to fit in with the rest of her queer co-workers.

My mother. She works with quite a few known gays and they have her trained. Her gaydar is pretty darned good too.

Funny enough i have heard a straight person like that. One of my best friends to be precise who's a 25 year old guy can tell me who is gay and Im a gay guy who's gaydar has never worked at all. (Think It's defective in some way)! And he's usually right 99% of the times.

I never believed in the idea of "gaydar" I always thought it was what I call "good detective work" or simply just getting an idea of who a person is through their body language, attitudes and expressions.

My very straight roommate has perfect gaydar and mine completely sucks. She's taken to pointing people out to me when we go out, which is kind of weird.

I don't see why not. Ya know something's up when one of the same gender stares at another like Rosie O'donnel stares at a donut. Makin that connection don't mean yer gay.
