There are many drills you can do to inhance your techinque and speed. Also breathing less helps you because everytime you breath you create more water resistence. Ask your coaches and fellow swimmers for some advice too. If you want some drills email me at Italian_swim_chick@yahoo.com because I have some worksheets from a swim camp I went to last summer.

Get good coaching for streamlining and efficient stroke. There are some amazing instructional videos for competitive swimmers at http://www.goswim.tv. The site is run by Glenn Mills, a 1980 US Olympic breaststroker and current swim coach.

Tuck in tight on the turns and streamline with 4 dolphin kicks off of each wall. Also ask your coach for tips and tackle one thing at a time. Ex. turns or starts. And of course Practice Practice Practice!

try wearing a drag suit. like in track. they wear the bulky clothing for practice so they HAVE to run faster, then when they race they are going to be a lot faster than they were before... so in swimming... wear like a tanktop and shorts OVER your swim suit... also a pair of socks! hope this helped!

practice your pulling and kicking seperately first so that you can see which area you are bad at and work on it. remember when you pull reach out your arm as far as possible and when you pull back stick your arm close to your side to minimize water resistance. and keep your head down while pulling don't look in front.

and practice practice practice you'll get the hang of it. remember it's the style so take your time to get it right.

I found that strengthening the legs is really important. You can try a drill called "over-kick" where you kick at a sprinting pace but your stroke is slower.

To train for my strokes I do other sports, like running I really want to try some triathlons soon. (And, I'm not even in my teens yet, so clearly you can do it!) Good luck.
