It's known as "Eidetic Memory". Yes it exists and is proven. There are people who have an amazing ability to open a book to a random page and do little more then glance at it and can recite the page verbatim. Some of us are lucky enough to have some semblance of a "photographic" memory as we can recall with vivid clarity events, pictures and sometimes, the written word with a great deal of accuracy. If you feel you have an extraordinary memory you might research the subject at your local library. As far as testing for it... I have no idea where to find that out.

I believe that we are either born with the capability of a photographic memory or that we are not. I do not think this is something that we can acquire in life. Some of us may have better memories that others, but to have a photographic memory, you need to be born with the capability.

Yes there is. You KNOW if you have a photographic memory. First of all, you remember things in images, and you remember a LOT MORE than the average person. I have a photographic memory, and can remember pages from textbooks that I had in the 1st and 2nd grade. I remember exactly what people look like, what signs I've passed on the interstate look like (down to the fine print), etc.

yes. having a good memory doesn't mean that you have photographic memory though. a lot of people think they do but they don't. it's like haaving a camera as a mind. you can remember exactly what something looks like, like a page of text you can just remember the text without really reading it. it's pretty cool to see some people do it
