In a communist government everything is doled out according to the needs of the individual (or what a government bureaucrat thinks you need) isn’t it much more preferable to decide what you need for your self and then be given the opportunity to go and get it?

maybe it beats constant struggle to survive with no sure outcome at the end of the day .UNDER communism everyone eats the same grog and drinks the same vodka so it may not be so bad .
BUT this is the way you look at an equal share for the working man so no use trying to defend a more resonable approach to labor verses management .IF every one working in a company does not have at least a tenth of what the owner has then something is wrong .
WHEN does the word enough come into play and when do the workers get paid or is it always going to be the rich against the poor and screw the working man .

What communist government are you talking about ?.Here in the Czech Republic [formerly Czechoslovakia] the government did not dole out anything. You were provided with a bare minimum, then you had to steal, bribe people or sometimes sell yourself to get what you really wanted.

Absolutely. I've never thought that social programs promote people, they help people out of jams they may have gotten themselves into. Perpetually takin handouts effectively destroys your choices, and your liberty. You know, most people who use social programs use it for a small amount of time. I wouldn't want to remove them. I wouldn't be opposed to some real legislation for change, either. I also think that the way to promote that logic is by fighting to remove the barriers to opportunity that many experience. I support affirmative action. If it remains in place, I think we have an argument for limiting public assistance.
