look at it like this. Jerry Rice wasn't that much faster than you with his 40 times at the combine his rookie year (4.7 I believe). Solid route running, good hands, and a strong upper body can help.

However, speed is always needed too. When I was your age, I was competing nationally for track and field. The best advice I'd give you is to work at speed. Do work outs that involve quick muscle movements - this isn't necessarily sprinting!

sorry but 5.3 is slow for a wide receiver... however hope is not lost because your 13... between 13 and 19 a.k.a. high school development, I was able to gain over 40 pounds of muscle and dropped my 40 down .7 seconds to a 4.7. And i didnt even work as hard as others. Easily u could increase your speed and strength through ladder drills, windspirnts, and weightlifting. One strength exercise i loved was the power clean because it helped with agility, strength and coordination which when being a wide receiver are probably 3 of your 4 most important attributes... good luck

For me, increasing my speed was hard but I managed to do it very well.

I would recommend the following:

jumping exercises
running stairs/hills
squats
sprints
some distance running on the days between lifting and sprinting

I used these exercises to increase my speed for soccer. Granted soccer is not the same, but speed is speed. Make sure to give your legs some rest and stretch well. Both are very important.

Constant wind sprints. Run, run & run some more. I dropped 0.5 sec off my time in the 40 between my sophomore & junior years in HS.

u run it faster than me, which sucks. just keep strenghtening your legs though, and work on technique. i've dropped like .2 off my 40 in about 2 monthes, just by working on my technique
