I have a floor that used to be covered with carpet. The carpet was removed and there is a tan colored glue left over. I have tried to use a large circular sanding machine and a hand sander, but both of these did not work. It seems like the fast motion and large amounts of pressure heat up the glue and melt it onto the sand paper. I have heard that paint thinners or scraping with blades work, but I need something that can work a little faster.

Please help, this is time sensitive.

I hate to say this, but sucks to be you. you will never get it "removed". Your best bet is to overlay it with something. I wish I knew more about the why here as I could give you better direction. I am an installer and believe me you will never get it off. If you find a good answer then by all means let me know.

Sanding won't work. I dont think there is a quick fix for this. Scrapping with a Solvent is the only true way. The only other thing I can think might work would be sand blasting it. Paint Thinner should work for most types of glue, some types of glue will come off really easy with some citrus based cleaners (409 makes one) that you can let soak for a while without so many fumes and fire danger, then scrape it easier.

Time is not going to be your friend on this one... paint thinner or mineral spirits is all i can think of. It will take some time but coat the glue out in front of you to help give it some time while you work on the glue behind it.

sorry this really sucks...but still you need to use some elbow grease and a good scraper.. you can find them in most hardware stores. Careful if you're using chemicals...read everything on the labels.
