How on earth can we punish people by doing to them as they did to others? By killing murderers, we are sinking down to thier level. It makes no sense and I believe that we should stop killing people. The judical system does not own peoples' lives and should not control if people live or die. What do you think?

1st answer:How on earth can you determine if somebody lives or dies on the basis of money? Life cannot be given a price and your statement is completly ludicrous.
2nd answer: That is rude. Secondly, abortion is wrong at any stage of life. To kill a person, or something that is almost promised to become a person is an aweful and inhumanae thing to do.

It's called punishment. You've got a mental disorder. People need to realize what they have done, and giving them a cake-walk for serial killing is just total insanity.

How can you kill an innocent baby that has done nothing wrong? Oh, that's right... a baby isn't a person.

Just think of the death penalty as an extreme case of late-term abortion. That should make it okay in your eyes, except the criminal did do something vile.

It's called the consequences of our actions.

If I play with a hand grenade, it's likely that the stupidity of my actions will lead me to become either severely maimed or completely dead.

If I jump off of a building, it is highly likely that I will splat.

If I know that the consequence of killing someone is that it could lead to my own death, yet I choose to kill someone anyhow, then I have essentially chosen the death penalty for myself.

I agree that in the case where someone COULD be innocent, then life in prison would be the better choice. BUT only if there is not enough evidence for an absolute GUILTY conviction.

Otherwise, as in the case of that guy that bludgeoned to death the family of that little girl and her brother...then abducted the kids...murdered the brother...and sexually assaulted the little girl...and there was no doubt that he was guilty...he chose his consequence. He bascially said to himself, "I know of the death penalty...but my pleasures are more important to me than my life."

It's like buying a house. You count the cost before you invest. Do I have the money? Can I afford this? Am I ready to commit to this?

No one is punishing anyone. There is a cost for taking someone else's life...it costs the killer's own life. Are they willing to pay the price?

Old saying goes like this: Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time.

But really, what good does it due to keep them locked up forever? Especially when in the case of murders who actually get the death penalty, most of them could never conceivably be rehabilitated. Aren't the prison systems full enough as it is? Or, here's the age old question: as a loved one of your's ever been murdered? These people make the choice to kill someone - often many someones. They made the choice knowing the consequences. Their victims didn't get a choice, did they???

I firmly believe in the death penalty. Why should I pay to take care of a murderer with my tax dollars? It takes quite a bit for someone to end up on death row- when that actually happens, it's (almost always) a justifiable situation. I think it's sad, but it's necessary.

Thank goodness for DNA testing- now that we have that to fall back on, people should a little more comfortable with the idea of the death penalty

I would have to agree just because of one reason: If you kill someone and then someone proves that person was innocent, that is the worst feeling ever.

But it is a good policy when it comes to having a severe punishment for those who committed horrible crimes.

I don't know. I am kind of 50%-50% on this subject.

It is unconstitutional, and it costs too much to put them to death. Also, easy way out for them. No one has ever given me a good reason for the death penalty. Except revenge, to which I say an eye for an eye leaves us both blind

edit: Here we go...it is more expensive to put somone to death, because of the appeals process. It isn't a deterrant, as death penalty states do not have a lower rate of capital crime.

I have a different view but draw the same conclusion.

There is a chance of wrong convitions, and there is always corruption. therefor, death penalty = chance of killing an innocent person.

I'm glad it's been abolished here in the UK.

We do not punish people by doing to them as they did to other......They have too often tortured and maimed their victims for their own self gratification or monetary gain. How do you feel about the rape, torture and murder of children? Think about what you are saying. They have destroyed families, broken hearts, and leave people with a lifetime of grief. The victims are not treated with respect, given a trial, had someone protect their rights. All the victims pleas for mercy are scoffed at by the offender.

Agree completely.Killing is not what a civilized society does.
There is no justification for it only emotional, primitive arguments as revenge.
Society should always try to take the high road where possible and like you stated so well not sink to the level of the offender.

I disagree completely with you.

Capital punishment serves as a deterrant. If the punishment is not severe, there is no disincentive to commit capital offenses. It also is preventative. Most people that are killers, will always be killers.

Finally it is cheaper to kill people, than to imprison them for 50 years.
