What you need:
Machine-wise you probably need a processor that runs 1.5 GHz or higher. If you want a "richer" graphical experience a dedicated video card will do that for you. To play lag free and still get nice graphic rendering you want at least 1 Gb of RAM. I played for awhile on 512Mb RAM and integrated graphics card, but the lag in capital cities and moderate to heavily populated areas was frustrating. I've upgraded to 1 Gb of RAM with the same integrated graphics card and I can play pretty close to lag free with the graphics settings turned up almost to max.

It's gona cost you $40(US) for the game, and then $15 a month to play. You can get the price lower by signing up for longer subscriptions by using a credit/debit card (goes down to about $12 a month if you buy 6 mo. subscription).

It's well worth it (to me). This is hands down the best MMO I've ever played. As other answerers have pointed out, you can solo any class to 60 (current lvl cap). And it doesn't really take all that long to do. There is always something to do, and you can play for a little while (an hour or so), or a long time on any given day and still feel like you've accomplished something (as long as you set reasonable goals for your play time). The pvp gear rewards have been improved dramatically and pvp will get even better in patch 1.12 when the cross realm battlegroups come online. You'll be able to fight against people from about 10-12 other servers instead of waiting forever for enough people on your server to sign up for a battleground.
The graphics are great, and the community is (for the most part) very friendly and helpful. There is of course the usual elitist snobs, jerks and smart a$$es you find in any MMO, but they can easily be ignored since they are generally outnumbered by the good people.

And grats for lasting longer than I did at FF XI, I beta tested it for 6 hours and was so disgusted I deleted it immediately.

World of Warcraft is fun because its group-oriented. Guilds are an essential part of the game, they're kind of like a club within the game. I also believe you'll like it because i had a friend who hated FFXI and moved to WoW and loves it. To play WoW you need a computer and internet connection. If you end up actually signing up, send a tell to Enus.

It's challenging, and you can play with people from all over the world..
The graphics are lovely, each class has its own strengths and weaknesses to master, each level has its challenges, the professions are useful and good money makers, there are travel forms, mounts and flight paths and there is an expansion due out soon.

To play you need an internet connection and a computer.

there are a ton of different classes, all fun. when you 'master' one, try the other, and it's like playing a different game.

the community is great. i used to play SWG, and this is a big improvement...

the world is HUGE! there's always something to do, and something new to discover.

and when you get bored, move to the other faction, and you get to see the world from a completely different point of view.

to top it all off, it has probably the best pvp i've ever experienced.

TWO BIG THUMBS UP!

Timmyy - Undead Mage - Draenor Server
Yabadabadoo - Human Rogue - Draenor
Jedicow - Tauren Hunter - Draenor

/train FTW!

WoW was a lot of fun. I played it for almost a year. What finally got me to quit was I was tired of having to pve to get gear in order to keep up pvp wise. I hate raiding, so my gear was not up to par.

There's a game coming out next year tho that's totally 100% pvp. It's called Fury, and you can check it out here..

If you prefer pve tho, WoW is about as good as it gets.

Another great thing about WOW is that you can solo to the level cap. It does take a little skill and longer but you can solo the game.

The key to WoW is to play how you want to play. If you want to group a lot-- join a guild. If you want to play solo- do it. Spec how you want, play how you want, and you'll have a great time.
