I think it varys from cith to city. Let me start by saying that I'm a Braves fan living in Houston. I from Atlanta but moved to Houston for business in 1995, and soon I'll be a Braves fan living in Indy. I believe that in the Northeast there are nor fans on a team living in there teams city then in the south or west. Perfect example is that in the early 1980, durning the oil boom, a lot of people moved to Houston for work, The same thing happen with the engery boom of the mid 1990. When you go to an Astros game it about 70% Astros fans and 30% vistors fans. Unless it the Braves or the Cubs the it's about 60%-40%. That why some city only sellout games when the team wins like Houston or LA. And other city, like Chicago. Boston or New York, sellout game all the time.

i'm a Giants fan, the spouse and youngster are Jets followers, we live close to Greenville and Spartanburg, South Carolina. ok we did develop up in NJ, yet i in my view loved the Panthers long in the previous I moved down right here, so it works out extraordinarily with the aid of fact Panthers guidance camp's in Spartanburg. The worst element is that with the aid of fact we don't have a front motor vehicle plate, i've got gotta force around with a #a million Jets Fan plate on the front of the motor vehicle. definitely although this isn't virtually as undesirable as being a Giants fan in Southern New Jersey (existence could've been plenty happier there if Philly followers in basic terms could recover from the reality their communities suck)

I used to live in the Seattle area, and I grew up a Mariners fan. Now that I've moved away from Washington, I'm still a fan. Probably always will be, at least as long as the team is in Seattle.

I'm a Jays' fan, but I now live in Western Canada after living the past decade in the U.S.
I've never actually lived in Toronto, but I grew up in Ontario right when the team was formed. I've been hooked since, and I can't imagine ever not cheering for them.

I live just shy of Houston, and definitely fall into the category of falling for my home team because I think the Astros are the best...for the record, even though it is the case now, I can definitely say that my love for the game for my team is going to change in a year when I head off to whatever college I end up attending...It's not my address, but my passion, that makes me a die hard 'Stros fan!!!

I grew up in Oyster Bay Long Island ( I know it's not New York City ) but it's not that far from the city... and I grew up a Yankee Fan... so the answer to you question is no... I've never lived in New York City... but close to it...
Very good question... very good.
