you must be talking about communism in Carl Marx's definition. Marxism was doomed from the start, because of the nature of man. greed and hunger for power tainted his Utopian idea of socialism, and as long as humans are the way they are (forever) it cannot work.

I do know that that was the key to the success and failure. That is the problem with Communisim that a small group of folks get rich at the expense of the Masses. The theory clings to science yet ignores the true needs of the people. Trotsky and Lenin believed in the State, as did Stalin by different means. The State never vanishes. The Anarchists had control of Catalan Spain and even there, the State remained after the Anarchists were crushed by the Nationalists. The Natural state of Communisim was supposed to be Anarchy but that is impossible to achieve because power has to be weilded by someone.

Communism got a bad image in this country during McCarthyism, and while I think it is a bum rap as it were, there are still issues with that style of gevernment and outlook on human behavior. I tend to think democratic socialism like in Sweden might be good, but having only lived in the US, I do not know enough to make full judgements.
Oh, and Leon? Sorry about that whole ice pick thing down in Mexico. Kinda sucked for you, but man was Iosef a paranoid piece of work!

All of that is so far removed now that there is hardly any interest or knowledge regarding the true meaning of Communism. It's not taught - or what is taught is such a dumbed down version that Lenin, Stalin & brethren are all spinning in their vaults . . .
To many, it simply just is no longer relevant.

well all true communism is a perversion of humanity, stalin and his followers perverted marx/engells and even Lenin's versions of communism and socialism.
People associate these countries with Communism because they - including Russia, live as if the red flag was still something to fear. It isnt. China is the least communist of all, having embraced popular capitalism.

it quite is an rather naive question. I stay in a positioned up-communist united states that maintains to be suffering to recover from the atrocities communism introduced. even with the undeniable fact that, usa is so rather far good that the democratic occasion in usa reflects very lots the political events in Europe that are considered to be good-winged. The "left" in usa is rather rather "good" in comparison to any communist regime. merely because of the fact the "left" believes anybody merits the proper to existence ie loose wellness care, would not cause them to even on the edge of communists. Secondly, i'm shocked which you nonetheless have faith so strongly interior the loose industry - have not you spotted what its down, no longer basically to the yank financial device, yet to the international's? There should be a stability between a loose industry with extremely regulation to regulate the growing to be wealth divide. So, interior the top i assume i can't comprehend this because of the fact its merely no longer authentic or maybe on the edge of the reality. Please, attempt to teach your self and open your concepts somewhat.

No, not really. No one pays any attention to history anymore, mostly because history as it is taught in schools is a huge lie, and most thinking people know that. Communism only works in small groups, much like democracy. When it gets to a country, real democracy and real communism won't work at all. Too large and too unwieldy

How did Stalin betray communism? I read about it, but i can't remember now? Was it all the killing he did?
Communism is fundamentally a failed idea in my opinion. I would be interested in hearing from you why you believe it is not though.

Hey, Leon, you ready to do a little polemicizing for polemicizing's sake?
Never mind. You forgot the apostrophe in don't. That means you didn't use the spell check. Trotsky would never have made that fatal mistake.
You don't rise to Trotsky's level of polemics.

I associate it with the monastic lifestyle of Ireland.
St Patric learned this and returned to Rome with the Irish way of life.
