Your poor little boy has probably had a stroke, or a blood vessel break in the brain, my white Shepperd, who was 17, and he had a episode like that a few weeks , before i had the vet come out and put him to sleep. he walked in circles and his eyes were divergent, and he was a huge animal so he would bump his head while trying to lay down. she confirmed the worse. we love our animals just like our children. that is a choice you have to make , but think of all of the good years he gave you and your family.in my case now that i can reflect on it I did what had to be done. a good evaluation by a vet is recommended. BTW , he did eat, the vet said that was a normal instinct.

It is a very very sad thing to have to put down any animal. My neighbors, WHO LOVED dogs so much, decided to put down their little dog... it was not that old but it went round and round in circles and had to be carried to the dog house... they eventually built a small enclosure in front of the dog house so to make sure that the little dog did not go out in the yard and walk in circles all night long..It was determined that the dog has a brain aneurysm and they had to put the sweet little thing down.. It was so very sad but it was in the best interests of the little dog

Yeah, it sounds like he has suffered a stroke, when an animal always circles in the same direction that is usually the result of a stroke... we used to have a Siamese cat that did the same thing.

That's a question only YOU can answer. If you don't mind the extra time it takes to care for him, and you don't think he is in pain and is happy, then leave him alone.
His appetite is a GOOD indicator of his state of mind.

I would say his time is coming soon, but it's up to you to have him put down or let him die at home. I would put him down if he were in pain of course. I would rather my dog dies here with me, I would feel less guilt.
