Run with me. I can do a mile in just over 5. It's going to take a lot of speed workouts. Run everyday to build up your base and then start throwing in speed workouts--twice a week. Do some tempo runs and hill repeats. Also, on some of your runs throw in some speed. Try 5 min hard 3 min easy for a whole run.

Good luck.

Not knowing how fast you can currently run, I can only guess what you need but here Are some ideas.

You are going probably to need to do interval type workouts to get your speed up.
Someone above suggested running 4 quarters (400m) in 75 seconds. If you are going to do that kind of workout, you should work up to 8 -12 quarters, and they should be faster than your target pace by 2-5 seconds with a 200 meter slow jog between them. You can break them up into sets of 4 with an extra jog between sets.

I would also recommend doing sets of repeat 800m, 600m 300m or 200m.

Do some 100m pick-ups at the end of your workout : Accelerate the first 25m, hold you speed at a hard run the middle 50m, then slow down the last 25. On way to do these is to pickup the straightaway and jog the turns

Be sure to warm-down and stretchout after your workout.

ok... i am in middle school and can't run a mile in 5 yet.
but what u need to do is look at landmarks next to the track or wherever you are running. lets say ther is a sign. think about only running to the sign. when u get ther focus on something else and do the same thing until youy are done. also try thinking about someone you like... something you did today.... anything else to keep your mind ocuppied and run fast!

you have to break it up and set smaller goals. Try running 4 1 minute 15 second quarter miles.

-have a friend run with you
-practice every day
-drink lots of water before running
-run while listening to music (with an ipod or mp3 player)
-be DETERMINED

lots of pratice and speed workouts. Not many people can run that fast, so it might be an impossible task

Lot of practice. There is no way to do it unless you run every day to condition your body to that kind of stress.
