Yes, but marijuana has no one lobbying in Washington. I do believe alcohol creates more tragedies and broken hearts than marijuana. I've never tried mariljuana so I'm really no expert but I've seen alcohol destroy lives in so many ways. I really have mixed feelings about the use of marijuana for relieving pain in terminal patients. If it helps them that is better to allowing them to suffer.
I really wish we could get the real political story about these things but we don't. Neither party is better or worse than the other in this area. They are too prone to opine and vote along party lines.

My experience is that everyone who smokes marijuana is very slow and you really cannot talk to those people. They become lazy and marijuana is very addictive (even though those who smoke pot say that it is not!!!!) It is a drug that can make a person stupid and dumb. I am so glad it is illegal, otherwise there would bo no smart people in the United States.
As for the driving accidents, of course there are more accidents with drunk-driving, but the number of "stoned-driving" accidents is not a small one either.

Myth: Marijuana is Harmless
Just as most experts agree that occasional or moderate use of marijuana is innocuous, they also agree that excessive use can be harmful. Research shows that the two major risks of excessive marijuana use are: (1) respiratory disease due to smoking and (2) accidental injuries due to impairment. In addition, marijuana speeds the heartbeat, which can be dangerous for patients with serious heart disease.
Recent studies have also shown that marijuana can aggravate symptoms of mental illness in persons with schizophrenic tendencies. At least four studies - in Australia, Sweden, New Zealand and the Netherlands - have found that early, repeated use of cannabis is associated with exacerbation of schizophrenia in young patients so inclined (Source: British Medical Journal "Cannabis and Mental Health." 23 Nov 2002). Marijuana is therefore generally disrecommended for schizophrenics, though it may also occasionally be medically useful for treatment of certain schizophrenic symptoms.
The Kaiser study also found that daily pot users have a 30% higher risk of injuries, presumably from accidents. These figures are significant, though not as high as comparable risks for heavy drinkers or tobacco addicts. That pot can cause accidents is scarcely surprising, since marijuana has been shown to degrade short-term memory, concentration, judgment, and coordination at complex tasks including driving[10] There have been numerous reports of pot-related accidents - some of them fatal, belying the attractive myth that no one has ever died from marijuana. One survey of 1023 emergency room trauma patients in Baltimore found that fully 34.7% were under the influence of marijuana, more even than alcohol (33.5%); half of these (16.5% used both pot and alcohol in combination[11]

This is one of those things that everybody's been in a huff about for so long. Seriously, it's about the same as alcohol. Either one can cause any number of reactions in anyone, but marijuana's obtained the status of "gateway drug". All the propaganda spread around over the generations has seriously watered down any accurate testing and research that's been done, so nobody's sure anymore what the truth is, and they're avoiding the legal issues of starting this in a serious manner. The populace needs educated, but they need a reliable source.

No, to many are smoking grass already. I've seen what it does to young people. When they drink, they get drunk and pass out. If they have good friends, they'll never drive drunk. I was a designated driver for drinkers. I love my friends and don't want to lose them. If you want to drink, make sure you have a real friend with you.
But with weed it makes them feel good to a certain point, then that's not enough, they need something a little stronger, like snorting, and it keeps going until they think they can fly. They end up stealing, selling their bodies or babies to get just one more fix.
Waking up with a hangover is one thing, but when you have to go cold turkey off of drugs, sweetie it hurts! You'll want to die! So many beautiful kids die from this when it only started out with a little weed.
When you see a 16 yr old lying on the street dead from a gun shot because he couldn't come up with his payment, it makes you think and you know what he said in the beginning; I just smoke a little weed now and then. My answer is still no, and no I am not a user, but I have seen so many families torn apart just from a little weed in the beginning. I'm sorry for preaching, but a member of my family has been severely hurt by drugs.

There's more to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) than meets the eye. I wouldn't want to slam them too critcally because there are some very hardworking and sincere individuals in that department.
Have you ever heard the quote: "Two wrongs don't make it right" ?? Or "The lesser of two evils" ? That's where these quotes are appropriately applicable. We have one legalized to keep a cap and economic status flow charted for captital gains and distribution.
On the other hand the fight against the illegal substance abuse is to keep a cap and economic status flow charted (subversively); to meander the funds from criminals into government contracts (not spoken of). And for the REAL ATF personnel, they really want to take a bite out of crime.
Peace Out.

The real problem is abuse. The average weight male needs about 1/20th of a joint to enjoy the buzz of pot for a few hours. It is a really nice buzz similar to that of having a few beers.
What usually happens is that people smoke the whole joint and it's like slamming a 12 pack of beer.
Who educates people on how to properly use pot? Who educates people on how to use alcohol?

I was just discussing this with my BF 2 days ago. We both feel that if you are going to chastize all of the pot smokers then ban alcohol! Then we'd get a few laws changed right quick wouldn't you say?
When it comes down to it I think the effects of drinking are more hazerdous to your health, as well as the health of others, than pot is.

I think it is real hypocritical to allow alcohol and cigarettes to be legal and other drugs illegal. Alcohol causes more deaths than marijuana and most others drugs combined.

Its tough to kill someone in a car accident when you're going 4 mph.
As for domestic violence...there was this one time...lets just say it involved me, my girlfriend and the last cheese puff.
