In a perfect world, the parents would be responsible for talking through any moral issue, whether it is sex, drug use, etc, to their children. However, around 4 decades ago, many parents put off that responsibility. Now, teachers must teach moral subjects in an amoral way. They must get away from the question of "is sex good or bad?" and must teach as if the kids are doing it.
One of my main concerns about sex-ed is the under-rating of abstinance. I heard someone once say that abstinance doesn't work. Really? Except for Mary, I never heard of someone getting pregnant without having sex.
If sex-ed must be taught in schools, then abstinance must be taught as well, and not just abstinance from regular sex, but also oral and ... the other one.
Pro-life vs. pro-abortion wouldn't be an issue if people, adults and teens, would be more respectful of their bodies and actually say "No" to sex with someone other than a long-relationship partner. (marriage is best, but not everyone wants to go there)

Public schools should NOT be teaching sex-education. Nor should they be teaching any particular religion. Public schools should be teaching children reading, writing, math, history, civics, science, etc. How did we ever get into a situation where sex is being taught to grade school and high schoolers? It's not a matter of morality or religion, it's a matter of giving the children a good basic education. Religion and sex-education are personnal, family choices and responsibilities, and the government should stay out of both! By the way, THE US PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IS FAILING OUR CHILDREN AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. AND BY NOW WE KNOW THAT MORE MONEY IS NOT THE ANSWER. ACCOUNTABILITY FOR SHABBY TEACHING IS NEEDED BEFORE WE RAISE ANOTHER GENERATION OF LIBERAL WHINING WEENIES WHO THINK THAT THEY ARE FREE TO DO WHATEVER THEY PLEASE SEXUALLY WITHOUT ANY ACCOUNTABILITY.

Sex ed should not be taught in the schools. A different forum needs to be devised because it is more of a moral question and the current public school environment is doing a horrible job because of the limitations on morality and ethics. Teachers are State employees. They have no business indoctrinating students in lifestyle choices. Better options and venues need to be made available. Too many teachers and students are crossing the line of propriety.

It depends on what you call sex education. I believe that the biology of how a life is created is fine but when public schools start teaching about things like abortion, condoms, homosexuality, and birth control they have overstepped their bounds. Wow we can teach kids that Heather has two mommies but can't let them know that there is God or even that there are people who believe that we didn't descend from a bright little fish. How twisted.

fulldisclosure along with a course in family economics and the cost of rent dippers and what it does to a girls body .
I for one hate those stretch marks on a woman and they need to be made aware of just how nasty the look and why we do it with the light's out after the first kid is born .
SHOW them some before and after picture's of what there body will look like .YOUR pregnent girlfriend does not stop going to the beach cause of the kid its all the nasty mark's on her body .MOST YOUNG girls are ruined for life unless aided with the latest in skin care products and exercise techniques so we must keep women from letting them self's go and make them productive teenage moms if thats what they want .LET that 18 year old boyfriend see you naked once after the kid and he will run for the hill's WHO wants a narled up chick .TEACH them all side's of sex there body and what happens to it .HOW to enjoy sex without getting pregnent and make the guys wear rubbers and use a spermicide instead of the pill .to many gils have problems associated with the pill later in life .GUYS need to be more responcible for birth control and not so quick to jump in the sak without thinking aboyt the consequences .
KEEP those young girls hot and there bodies in the best shape possible .OR they will face a hard struggle in life that need not happen .

Sex Ed should start in kindergarten. Children should know all they can intellectually absorb about non-human mammalian reproduction before the age of eight. Then all but the dullest bulbs among them will be able to make the leap on their own.

I think that sex ed is a good thing. It teaches kids about their bodies and how they work. However, I think that passing out condoms and promoting abortion is wrong. Passing out condoms will only serve to foster promiscuity and abortion is murder, so I hate that as a sin. I honestly don't know if anyone does promote that in sex ed, but if it is, it shouldn't be.

In my opinion, sex education, beyond the simple biology, should not be 'taught' in schools. The ramifications and implications of pregnancy and/or disease are moral issues and should be taught at home. Schools cannot teach morality (the ACLU says so).

HIGH SCHOOL????
Try Middle or Grade School.
Before they need to know... not after.
Kids should know what it is and how it works before they go using it.
That way there won't be so many unplanned pregnancies.
I'm not saying "Hand out condoms!" I'm saying educate! Kids can buy condoms! They can get them anywhere!
